Alone

The first night was the worst. Everything was empty and quiet as the sun came down. I didn't have the comfort of my team or Levi, and I wondered how many would even return. I tried to distract myself by cleaning for a while, but eventually I just ended up crying myself to sleep as the worry set in. The cold and loneliness made me sleep that much worse.
The next morning wasn't much better. I didn't have work to do as there were no scouts to report to. I wondered what housewives of scouts did all day when these missions happened and there were no children to raise. I didn't even have an appetite. I went over to the main building where the other members of the team stayed. I cleaned it so the others would at least have a nice place to return to after the horrors they are undoubtedly witnessing as I breathe. If they return.
After a boring day, I returned to my new cabin home and stayed in the living room, desperately trying to find another way to distract myself. There was a sudden knock at the door. Perhaps a messenger of the scouts return already?
My excitement pushed me to the door but when I opened it, I saw three dangerous-looking men staring back at me, dressed in black and armed with knives. I was immediately on guard as I stepped back slightly.
"Guess it is true fellas! Levi here did score himself a Misses! A cute one at that," the first man told me disgustingly. His breath was rotten and his skin pale. He had a twisted expression on his face and his tone was teasing in a way. Whoever these men are they don't seem to know me, or what I'm capable of. That will work well to my advantage.
They didn't waste time as they held open the door and started coming for me. I easily dodged their clumsy attacks as I headed back for my kitchen while walking backward.
"Gonna corner yourself? Don't see how that'll help you so much little lady," They teased me with their disgusting voices. Before they could react I ripped open my knife drawer, grabbed my sharpest blade, and stabbed the first attacker's hand. I had never killed a person before, but I was prepared to. I pushed him back as he yelled in pain and smiled at the others.
"Crazy bitch!" They both came at me, I ducked and went under them, pulled the knife up, and stabbed one in the back of his knee so he couldn't walk anymore. I leaped to the other side of the kitchen, with two now distracted by their pain. No one was coming for me, no one good anyway. I put myself in a defensive position as the last one ran towards me. I dodged to the side and stabbed his neck. I must have his jugular as he became the first person I ever killed. I tied up the other two outside and stuck a knife in each foot as I contemplated what to do.
No one would be coming for me for days, so I simply had no choice but to risk telling my story to the MPs. Luckily, when I did find one, they seemed to believe me after showing them the two alive and the body. Apparently, they were searching for those guys and let me off the hook without too many questions.
That was the end of that but the house was filled with blood and so was I so I tried to clean it as best as I could. I was exhausted but I spent the evening scrubbing every drop of blood out of the wood. I went and bathed myself too, feeling my baby. I didn't feel pain so hopefully they were okay, but it was still quite scary.
I didn't get much sleep for the next several days. I saw the physician who confirmed my pregnancy was fine after the whole ordeal thankfully. I didn't have any regrets but I was still uncomfortable with what I had to do to defend myself. The house was finally clean and rid of the blood stains but it wasn't easy. I guess it did keep me busy though. No one would be coming to see me though, I doubt the Garrison regiment would waste a horse to tell me when the scouts were spotted on their way home.
I finally got some deep rest when I woke up to feeling someone wrap their arms around me. I immediately panicked when I woke up and pushed them off me only to realize it was Levi. He looked a bit shocked at my reaction as the tears flowed and I leaped back into his arms, so happy to feel the warmth I missed so much for the past week.
He was filthy, undoubtedly exhausted, and his eyes looked sad. He had been through so much so quickly as he held me back tightly.
"Hey now, why the tears?" He told me as he tried to console me. I was inconsolable, all the fear over the past few days kept me from crying anymore so it all just flowed now that I felt safe again.
Once I calmed down a bit he stopped and looked at me strangely. "Why, does it smell like blood here?" He asked me with a worried look in his eyes. I wiped my tears and told him everything, about the men and how they mentioned his names, what I did, and the military police involvement. He looked mortified after I explained everything. He made sure I was okay first and I explained that I was okay and so was our child. He looked relieved to hear that at least.
"How can I call myself a man if my pregnant wife had to fight off three intruders alone? They sound like they had a bone to pick with me from the underground," he said with anger in his voice. I didn't want him to feel sorry for himself so I instead wrapped myself around him and spoke softly.
"You call yourself a man because you fight to save humanity outside the walls and you call yourself a man because you picked a woman strong enough to protect our family," I said confidently. He gave a small smirk.
"Yeah, I guess you are right. But still, I'm gonna make sure no cowards ever dare step close to our home again," he told me coldly. I felt a blaze light up in him as I knew it wouldn't happen again. We were safe.
