"I would love nothing more than to get rid of you," He said to me, turning up his nose yet again. I frowned more and grabbed him as he tried to turn, I grabbed his face and looked him straight in his beautiful gray eyes.
"No, you wouldn't want that," I stated proudly as I smiled with pride. I saw his eyes widen for the first time in surprise. He was almost speechless before shaking his head, breaking my grip, and turning from me. I called after him, "Are you going to tell me why yet? Or are you too immature to face yourself?" I smiled at my sudden sense of boldness, it must be coming from my anger after what he had put me through in the last 24 hours. It seemed to work as he turned back around and grabbed my hands, bringing his face close to mine
"Immature? The only one immature is you. What is your deal anyway? Who joins the scouts when they are number one in their graduating class? Where is your spark?" He pleaded, obviously trying to contain his upset but I could see through it, even if others wouldn't be able to. His voice didn't shake, but his eyes seemed more alert.
"My spark?"
"You are too passive to be here. You do whatever I say," he said. I see, he doesn't trust me. But still.
"Yet, you are the one to give me a new uniform when others don't receive one, and extra water in the night," I held my ground. He stayed still for a moment as the trees rustled above us, guarding us from the view of anyone else. "So what is your deal with me?"
"You don't remember? Really, after all this time I thought you came back," He said quietly trying to turn away. I grabbed him once more. I frantically searched my memory, why he seems so familiar, why I somehow okay with all the things he puts me through. I smile as I remember the warm memory, of two children hugging in the underground. One with beautiful gray eyes who was always afraid of his feelings.
I grabbed Levi and I pulled him into a hug with glee, my cheeks red but for the first time, not caring about it. I could feel his body grow hot as he carefully wrapped his around me as well so sweet and gently.
"I never forgot, I thought you died," I said softly. "It was the underground after all, you just disappeared one day so I wanted to join the special scouts and try to put an end to this hell on Earth. When I heard your name was here, I came on the smallest chance it was you," I said softly. I guess I haven't thought of it much since training took up so much space in my head that I stopped wallowing in my feelings.
He stood still for a long time, gently holding me as I felt his body stay strong, unable to shake after years of no doubt abuse and more shocking signs from the battlefield, yet still somehow shocked at this understanding. All he could muster was "I missed you, so, so much, Vera"
Eventually, I let go and looked him back in his eyes as he teared up slightly. I wiped his tears starting to form as his face turned completely red. I still had to put down my foot though.
"Don't tease me anymore like you done lately. You need to face your emotions instead of projecting it," I stated firmly. Even though I secretly liked it, it was no way to start a reconnecting relationship. He only nodded at me before regaining his composure.
"Yet, you let me. Was that because you secretly recognized me or are you just into that with anybody?" He messed with me leaning in, lustful in his eyes. I smiled as I gave him a soft kiss on his cheek, feeling the rush of excitement in my veins.
"Let's go back, pervert," I stated. "And be normal, I am still part of the team,"
"Yes, you need to control yourself and not act weird, like last night at dinner," he stated coldly again.
"What?!" I shouted back, shoving him slightly in the chest as he let out a small smile before going back to his normal stoic face. I did the same as well, gathering up our throwing knives. I can't believe I found him again.
