Other plans

Another three weeks had passed by in a blink of an eye. Levi and I had been busy submitting the correct documents for our license to marry and arranging the exact timeline of events. We hadn't yet told the team. We decided to reduce awkwardness, we would tell them the day of. Levi wanted to tell them flat out but I didn't want the meal dynamics to change. I wanted to continue to feel like a normal scout for as long as I could.
This morning, while I was preparing to go to Headquarters for my job, Levi grabbed my shoulder and stopped me.
"Actually, we have other plans today," he spoke coolly. I nodded and waited for him to saddle up. He didn't tell me where we were going as he rode in silence with me not far behind. My curiosity was peaked as he took towards the internal city, unfazed by the city and knowing exactly corners to take without so much as a second thought. The cramped of the city was unfamiliar to me, but I followed without a complaint.
Finally, he stopped and jumped off his horse at one building made of white and red stone like the others. He tied up his horse to post nearby and I followed suit.
"Are you gonna tell me why we are here yet?" I asked him, wondering why he would make me journey so far.
"No," he spoke coldly before moving along and having me follow him. We found a store filled with various styles of dresses and clothes and a sweet older lady running it.
"Ah, you are just in time for your pick up," she said to Levi.
"I gave you the measurements, I assume the dress is up to standard?" Levi replied. The old lady nodded in pride.
"I've only made thousands of dresses dear boy, don't you worry about the quality," she replied confidently.
"Right than, this is my soon to be wife. I assume there is no problem with her trying on the dress before we walk out of here with it. Am I right?" He asked coldly. He didn't seem to really trust her, and I couldn't blame him. The interior was filled with pompous idiots who made their life purpose to be as greedy as possible. But somehow, this woman seemed different from the others that looked at us scouts with disgust here.
"Of course, you just wait here. It is bad luck for a man to see his bride's gown before the wedding day afterall," she explained. Levi rolled his eyes at the comment as the older lady snuck up behind me, patting my shoulder and urging me to move along with her to the dressing room at the back of the store. Levi didn't take his eyes off mine, always on guard.
When I opened the dressing room door, I was greeted with a room filled with large mirrors on every corner, even the back of the door and a small white stand in the middle where I assume I dress on. I stood there and waited as the lady returned with a white gown I presumed was mine.
The gown was silky, soft, and delicate. It was completely unexpected but beautiful material that seemed to flow with my skin. The older lady helped me get the dress on. It was floor length and somewhat conservative, only showing a sweet heart neckline and lined with laced sleeves. It was much too fancy for a simple wedding like we had planned. I hadn't even known Levi went through all the trouble to have this made for me.
I looked at myself in the mirror, the dress perfectly hugged my curves in the right places while covering my bloated belly. My skin seemed to glow with the reflective nature of the gown as it made me look unfamiliar, like a princess.
When I turned to go show Levi, the lady stopped me again.
"Didn't you hear what I said earlier for bad luck?" She asked me again.
"Is that really true? I don't usually fall for those kind of old wives tales," I replied. She smiled again at me, making me a bit uncomfortable.
"Take it from an old dress maker, you don't want to risk it. I see the dress fits you perfectly, what do you think my girl?" She asked me, changing the subject and redirecting me to the mirror.
"Doesn't it seem like too much for a small wedding?" I asked her, unsure if why I was deserving of such a beautiful piece.
"No, not at all. Small or big wedding, it doesn't matter. What matters is the heart. I can tell this isn't your usual style, but it was custom designed by your man there for you with my advice. He is in love with you, and he wants to make sure you are given the best treatment for anything, no matter how trival he claims it to be. That, my dear, is a good man," she explained happily.
"Why are you so nice to us? Most people hate the scouts here," I asked her bluntly. She looked down for a moment before answering.
"I am not from the interior. I had my life saved by the scouts before. No one else's opinion would change my experience or mind. That's why," she answered. I nodded, appreciating her honesty for the situation as she began to help me undress and pack up the dress for the special day.
"One more thing dear, take this," she handed a beautiful hand laced veil that covered just over my face, but was so graceful and elegant I couldn't help but fall in love with. She must of saw my reaction as she smiled. "It's for you, free of charge. Be brave," was all she said before walking me out to Levi.
"About time, where's the dress?" He asked impatiently. He held his arms cross and scowled with annoyance.
"Hasn't anyone told you it's bad luck to see the brides dress before the wedding?" I teased him. This didn't help his frustration but he let it go.
"Fine, whatever. You want to believe that bullshit be my guest. Did it fit at least?" He asked me, changing the subject as he knew he had lost the battle. I nodded and gave him a kiss on the cheek, not caring if anyone saw. Only the old woman did as she smiled and mentioned something about "young love".
Levi paid the old woman and carefully helped me pack the dress anyway into our saddle satchel. The dress was already wrapped in a cloth protecting anyone from seeing it was in the first place. We rode home together and made it to another night in each other's rooms.
