A week later
It was a Saturday night, the guys was at their favorite hang out spot the Arcade Bar.
"Barnes you alright? You've been quiet lately." Pietro said
"Yeah." He said
"Bucky we know you this isn't like you. Are you having second thoughts on marrying Claire?" Steve said
"Cause we all think it's a bit fast." Sam said
"We wouldn't blame you man if you are." Pietro said
"No.." he said as he kept waiting for Sam or Pietro to say something.
Thirty minutes later, Sam said "Seriously Barnes what gives?"
"Wanda hasn't said nothing.." he said
"About what?" Sam said
Bucky looked "Barnes?" Pietro said
"I might as well tell you she won't be able to keep a secret long...I'm the reason why Miranda left." He said
They all looked at him stunned, Steve finally said "What do you mean?"
Bucky told them everything, and they were even more stunned. When Steve got home he told Peggy.
"Oh my word!" Peggy said
"Yeah I think he truly loves her Peggy. And I'm fearful that if we can't find her that he will relapse and lose Mason again." Steve said
"I'll do my best my love." She said as she kissed him.
Peggy got onto her laptop and began to get in contact with her Oxford contact.
"Oh no!" She said
"What is it?" Steve said
"She's not at Oxford." Peggy said
"Let me do some more digging we will find her." Peggy said
Around 3AM Bucky's phone was ringing, and he woke up "Hello.." he said
"James it's dad, um Zantana has been brought in. It's bad.." James said
"I'm on my way!" He said as he quickly jumped up and left.
He found his dad, "Dad?" He said
"Zantana was found in her car at work." James said
They went into the room, and he saw the sheet over her face. "No..no Zane." He said as he pulled it down.
"She OD'd son..they found all kinds of drugs." James said
"She relapsed? Oh Zane why didn't you come to me.' he cried
"Where is her family son?" James said
"I'm her family dad..her family cut her off at 16. They don't care about her." Bucky said as he wiped his tears.
Bucky was allowed to have her phone, he saw that she had a voicemail from a California number. He listened to the voicemail and his heart broke the message was from three days ago. They had hung out and he spilled all his shit on her and she never said a word about her stepbrother being let out of prison.
He began to cry, "Son?" James said
"That bastard that raped her in California was being released. He's her stepbrother and she had to abort the baby. Her parents didn't believe her and cut off that between her lying and getting him put in prison and the drugs she was no longer welcomed." He said
James looked down. He now understood Zantana's need to numb the pain and always sleeping over.
James and the family allowed her to be buried in the family cemetery and even gave her a tombstone with Barnes as her last name.
