Bucky put her address into his GPS once he took a nap at his hotel room to give her time to finish her classes for the day. He found her apartment complex and her apartment, she answered when he knocked.
"How did you?" She said
"Peggy knows people here. I just want to take you to one dinner so we can talk that's all Miranda." He said
She looked down as she bit her lip, "Fine then you can go back to Seattle." She said as she slipped on her shoes as she grabbed her purse.
"Ok.." he said
They headed to the restaurant, Murphy's on The Green and got a seat away from other people. After they placed their order Bucky bit his lip as he tried to figure out how to start.
"You remember I told you I am a recovering addict and alcoholic." He said
"Yeah.." she said
"And that I said I had alot more at stake than just my job" he said
"Yeah.." she said as she squeezed lemon into her water.
"I wasn't allowed to keep my son at all. All my visits were supervised for the last two years of his life. I made a choice that costed me my marriage with Susie and time with my son. I got drunk and high after work with my late best friend. I picked up Mason and we got into a car accident. Susie left me and got full custody of him. I had spent two and half years trying to prove to her that I was clean and sober to have joint custody she refused. When the accident happened my dad gave me this big speech about how I had to be the adult that I had to be responsible and not make anymore risky decisions." He said
Miranda looked down, "That night you showed up I almost relapsed. I felt awful and wanted to die cause I couldn't get your face out of my head. I wanted to go and get drunk or high but I couldnt. This last month and half I have had to go to more meetings and therapy sessions cause I have had to fight the urges to relapse cause I pushed you away and then two weeks ago I lost Zantana. I was so wrapped up in my bubble that I didn't notice she was hurting and she relapsed when she did she OD'd. When Peggy gave me your contact info I nearly come apart and showed up at my sponsor's house in a mess." He said
"Miranda I love you I meant it that night, but I'm a mess. My dad led a double life for years, and like I said my parents divorced. All the lies and secrets it caused me to deal with it in unhealthy ways and my twin sister well I told you about her." He said
Miranda looked up, "James.." she whispered
He braced himself for her response.
"I wish you had just been honest with me that day on your porch. I understand that you were trying to protect to your son and your job. You should of led with that because now I feel like a jackass. You never told me all about the divorce and the custody arrangement fully everything was in vague details." She said
"I was afraid you would run." He said
"After what I told you about my biological dad why would you think that I would run." She said
"Miranda I'm not as smart as you think I am. I'm a dumbass who isn't good at expressing my feelings, and I don't trust people easily." He said
"We can give this another chance James, and I will transfer back home after Christmas break. Don't make me regret this though " she said
He scooted his chair closer to her and kissed her.
"I've missed you." He said as he cupped her cheek.
"I missed you." She said as she kissed him.
