After I wake up in the middle of the night, I'm not really able to fall back asleep, and I instead become overwhelmed with thoughts that keep me up. I decide to go to the Slytherin common room to try and get some air and hopefully clear my head of these thoughts. When I arrive at the Slytherin common room, I find it to be empty and very quiet, with everyone asleep. I try to relax and take deep breaths, and I slowly settle down on the couch to let my thoughts roam freely.
There I lie on the couch thinking about a lot of stuff, when suddenly someone walks into into the common room. He seems to watch me, and I stand up immediately. "Who's there?" I'm instantly a lot more alert and tense since I'm the only one awake, and when I ask the mysterious visitor who they are, I can hear his voice as he answers softly.
"It's just me, Tom. I couldn't sleep for some reason, and I thought I'd come down to the common room for some air."
"Oh, Tom.. yeah, me neither." I sit down again and look at the fireplace.
Tom nods in acknowledgment, and he also sits down on the couch beside me with a soft sigh. He's silent for a moment, still attempting to compose himself and relax. He was also unable to fall asleep, and now he's feeling a bit out of place and awkward. His mind is still whirling with thoughts about everything that's happened previously, but he tries his best to settle down and clear his head as he gazes into the fiery embers of the fireplace.
We just sit beside each other. No one is saying anything. I'm just too tired to talk, and I feel like I can barely open my eyes.
Tom is also too tired to say anything, and he seems to be focused on the fire in front of him. He's starting to feel very drained from everything that's happened recently, and he also seems to feel somewhat exhausted from the lack of sleep. He's not even attempting to start a conversation with me now, and he's sitting beside me quietly with a soft expression on his face. He seems to be at peace with just sitting next to me in silence and gazing at the fireplace for now.
I notice how I slowly tip to the side, and my head lands on Tom's shoulder. With my eyes closed, I fall asleep without realizing what I'm doing or where I am. He doesn't resist or try to move me away. He instead keeps his arm around my shoulder so that I'll be as comfortable as possible, and he watches as me finally allow myself to fall asleep. He keeps me close to him, and he lets me rest my head on his shoulder, and he slowly begins to drift off to sleep as well. Their silent presence beside each other is a beautiful moment that neither of us realize is happening. We are both so exhausted that we easily fall into slumber.
