The next day, I'm sitting in History of Magic. Still by far the most boring subject at Hogwarts. Tom seems to have a certain fascination for it. Especially when it comes to the dark wizards of history. I keep looking at him, I've been fascinated by him ever since he invited me to Professor Slughorn's ball. And the thought of it makes me nervous. Oh yes, and of course, this subject is taught by a ghost. He was practically there for everything.
As the old ghost of Professor Binns drones on about a boring and dry topic in History of Magic, I can't help but look at Tom repeatedly as he seems to be deeply engrossed in the subject of dark wizards that Binns is teaching. I find myself looking at Tom a lot during Binns' class because he is always so interesting to watch and I also can't help but get excited about the upcoming Slughorn Ball event that is coming soon as well.
After class, as I'm walking out the door, someone grabs my hand. I turn around, and Tom smiles slightly at me. I feel his hand take hold of my own
Tom: "Lucia, can I talk to you for a minute? Can I ask you a quick question?"
I smile at him "Well of course, you haven't changed your mind about the Slughorn Ball, have you?" I say jokingly. Tom smiles a little bit more at my joke, and he speaks to me in a gentle tone of voice.
Tom: "No..." He pauses for a second and then continues to speak. "I was wondering... if it would be alright with you if I walked you to your next class."
"Yes, of course, we can go to class together. What a question," I say with a laugh. And we walk down the corridor together. Tom doesn't say much. It seems like he just wants to be around me, and to be honest, I'm enjoying it too. "So...why are you so interested in the history of magic?"
Tom grins briefly and then says
"Honestly, making a name for yourself and being known for hundreds of years. I think it's impressive. My goal is to become famous, too."
I raise my eyebrow. "Oh yeah, in what way?" I ask him as we continue to walk through the hallway. At the mention of wanting to become famous, I see Tom smile at me softly as I stare at him with an eyebrow raised.
Tom: "I guess you could say that I have similar ambitions towards my status. I have an aim to become the most accomplished wizard of my generation, and ultimately one of the most famous in history."
He speaks to me with a calm and confident voice as I continue to walk together, and he seems to have a genuine desire to become renowned for his wizarding successes and contributions to the wizarding world.
I started to laugh because I thought he was joking, but Tom looked at me confused. Then a student bumps into me, and my things fall to the floor. Tom grabs the student's arm and pulls him towards him with a serious look on his face. "Touch her again, and you'll regret it."
I am surprised and slightly confused at Tom's impetuous behavior. I place my hand gently on his arm, and he lets go of the student immediately. "Tom, it's okay."
The student runs away frantically. I see Tom's protective side in full force as he suddenly gets upset. Tom quickly turns his attention back to me and sees that I placed my hand gently on his arm to calm him down.
Tom: "Sorry, I just don't tolerate anyone hurting you." We look into each other's eyes for a long moment. It's as if the world around us has disappeared. My hand is still on his arm and I say "It's okay, Tom".
His face softens, and he sighs softly. Then he says, "You know you're the only one who has that effect on me. Who can bring me down like that."
A small grin crosses my face, and I reply
"I know." Tom's face softens, and his eyes almost look as if he's almost staring into mine as his grin appears again. He then seems to be in a bit more of a pensive mood as he speaks to me once again and looks me right in the eyes.
"I want you to know that I care about you, you know? You, of all people, make it the hardest for me to concentrate in class."
He speaks to me in a kind and gentle tone of voice as he continues to stare into my eyes.
I smile and slowly pull my hand away, and then we continue walking down the hallway
"Is that why I should apologize?" I say jokingly. Tom continues to look into my eyes, and his expression is a bit more playful now as he speaks to me in a humorous tone of voice.
"No, in fact, that's precisely the reason why I should be thanking you."
He is now starting to get back into a playful mood, so he smiles at me again, and he seems to have lightened up slightly in this moment. I'm beaming a little now. "Oh yes, why is that?" I ask him, teasing slightly. Tom is now being a lot more playful in how he responds, and we start flirting a bit back and forth again.
"Because it means that you are the most fascinating girl I have ever met."
He says to me with a smirk, as he seems to enjoy your playful back-and-forth conversation, and his grin is growing slightly now as we interact with each other.
We will slowly arrive at the next classroom. We have Divination now. To be honest, I don't really believe that someone can tell the future but I have to attend it.
"Tom, would you like to be my Divination partner for today?" There must always be two of us in Divination. One predicts the future for the other. Something like that. Tom suddenly seems very intrigued at that suggestion, and his expression quickly becomes a bit more curious and eager as he answers me
"Yeah, that actually does sound interesting. I'd love to do that with you!"
He speaks to me in a very eager and curious tone of voice, and he sounds like he's looking forward to trying out Divination with me for this next class for sure.
