"So... What happened to you, kid?"

A gatekeeper wearing boiled leather armor asked while drinking his cup of coffee and holding a clipboard.

"I slipped into a mud pit."

The young slim man answered, his white shirt and black causal shorts completely covered in mud along with the rest of his body. He is also barefooted.

his slightly dull orange eyes looked away from the gatekeeper as if he was too embarrassed to even make direct eye contact with him.

"A mud pit huh..."

The young man's answer caused the gatekeeper to raise his brow slightly.

"You went to the overlooking hill?"

The Overlooking Hill is one of the few places where you can see the entire city without any obstruction.

It's quite a good tourist spot for many that come to the city. But recently, it was raining like crazy around the area.

"Yeah... I was trying to see the sunset view. But once I'm done, the hill decided that it's a good time to fall into a mud pit so... I'm here."

The gatekeeper stopped for a moment before he started to laugh heartily.

"Hahaha! And you lost your shoes too huh!?"

"... Can I get in already? I want to take a shower already..."

"Right, right, I'll get you in. Do you have an ID on you?"

The gatekeeper asked while tapping his hand on the clear crystal next to him.

"Still got it, here."

The young man pulled out a wallet before taking a simple-looking card out and handing it to him.

"'Ichor Redwood'... Alright, place your hand on the crystal."

The gatekeeper brings the card and puts it in the slot on his side of the crystal.

The young man, Ichor, followed by putting the less muddy hand on the crystal, causing it to glow in a green light.

"The Identity is cleared... But where is your soul-bound beast?"

"It- She's sleeping right here."

Ichor pointed at his shoulder where a centimeter big mosquito could be seen sleeping on it.

"'Blood Drinker Insect'... Yes, that is the right one."

The gatekeeper nodded before pulling out the card from the crystal slot and giving it back to Ichor.

"Go take a shower quick, kid. The winter is coming soon."

"Yes sir."

Ichor nodded before making a run into the city, the ID card still in his hand.

After only a few seconds of running, he has fully blended in with the crowds of people enjoying life in the nighttime.

"Quite a nice kid..."

The gatekeeper looked at where Ichor went for a few seconds before returning to his post, waiting for anyone who would come into the gate at this time of the day.

.....

Ichor is currently running in the crowd, his hands covering his face, leaving only his eyes to see where's he going.

"... So embarrassing..."

Buzz?

"I guess that's true, mud did give a good reason for my state here. But still..."
