Chapter 23

Kayon

"Make sho you lock these doors, a few young folk been breaking into people establishments lately. I don't wanna be next." Mr. Bailey put on his hat.

"I know, I got everything under control. This isn't your first time leaving me in charge."

"and ion mind yah friend helping out but no hanky pank in here. Keep your body fluids to yourself."

I laughed. "Body fluids? That's crazy..."

"Alright I'm gone." He walked out. I looked over at Micky.

"Bailey wild for the fluid comment," Micky walked over to me. "I will start sweeping and wiping down the glass doors on the cooler."

"Thank you." He went to the back to get the broom.

I decided to stay in front and reorganize the shelves, turning stuff around so labels were facing the front, putting stuff back in its right place. I hear the bells ring on the door. "Just give me a second, I'll be right with you."

"Bitch nigga," I heard a familiar voice.

I look up to see Sean and the guys he been hanging around with lately. I do a little chuckle. "You and I both know ain't shit bitch nigga bout me, Sean."

He picked up a jar of jelly off the shelf and dropped it on the tile floor, it broke and spilled everywhere. "Pick that shit up."

I finally stood up. "This the new you huh?" I stepped around the jelly to be sure if it goes down, I don't slip and fall. No matter what, I can't let them get me on the ground or corner me. "You get with a new crew and y'all going around punk faking...you know outta me you and Lonzo, yo ass was not a fighter."

"It won't just be me though," his boys came closer.

I smirked. "All this because of what man? What you so upset for? Why you can't just leave us alone?"

"Lonzo rolled up on me at the barbershop, called his self checkin me...I know how he feel bout you...the way I see it, if we beat yo ass, he maybe will think twice before steppin to me in the future."

"We? You can't just give me a head up?" I took the rubber band off my wrist and tied up my dreads.

"I could but I won't,"

"Now, who's really the bitch ass nigga?"

He tried to charge me but I stepped out the way and he went tumbling down. One of his boys in a red shirt swung but I ducked and punched him in the stomach. Then I went to throwing hands with the biggest one with them. We were crashing into stuff, I ain't gonna lie, bro had hands. I had to really get with him, but this wasn't my first face off with someone bigger than me.

I heard Micky come from out the back. He quickly started fighting with the boy in the red shirt, I smiled because my baby was beating his ass. I couldn't pay too much attention because the guy I was fighting was able to get me into a headlock. I knew I fucked up, because Sean was back on his feet. "Turn him round to me."
He hit me like three times, I watched my blood leak on the floor. He pushed me to the ground and they started stomping me. Micky was trying to get to me, but a fourth person came in and they held him back. I blacked out.

Lonzo

I was blowing my horn trying to get out of this traffic jam. I just received a call from Malani about Kayon, and I was worried. I needed to get to him. Finally the traffic was moving and I was able to go around people. I parked crooked at the hospital, I didn't care. She already told me what room he was in so I went straight there. She stopped me at the door. "I need to see him, where is he?"

"I know but just wait, wait. Now, he is not in good shape Lonzo and you need to try and prepare yourself. "

I pushed past her. Micky was by his side and Gma was too. Micky looked beat up as well, I was thankful to know he at least had him. His face was almost unrecognizable, and his arm was in a cast. My tears instantly ran down my face. "What the fuck man.....fuck!" I yelled. I laid my head on his stomach. "Imma kill that nigga, he gonna wish he never did this shit to you." I looked up at Micky. "Sorry to be on him like this but...you know I,"

"You love him too, I know...it's fine and I want you to know I tri...."he was blinking back tears. "I tried to help but it was four of them and by the time I got in there, he was already..."

"You don't need to say anything,"

Micky clears his throat. "Gma, let's go get something to drink." He gave me a look like he wanted to give me a few minutes alone with him.

I whisper. "thank you"

Once the room was clear, I climbed in the bed beside him and put my arm over his stomach. I kissed his cheek. "This is all my fault, and imma make things right. I should be laying in here, not you." Gma, Micky and Malani were gone for a while. When I woke up, Micky was sleep by the bed in a chair and the other two had went home. I was about to sit ip but felt Kayon grabbed my leg. I looked down at him. "You're awake?"

He nodded. "My body hurts." I called the nurse.

"You been crying." He stared at me with his semi good eye.

"When it come to your ass I stay crying. You make me like this." I quietly laughed at myself.

"That makes two of us."

"You know I would had no problem beating Sean ass, but he jumped me."

"I already know, me and you stayed puttin niggas on they ass, Sean was just there. He had to jump you."

"You don't have to retaliate, just leave it. I don't want you gettin into something way over your head because of me."

"Fuck that, I ain't lettin this slide. Sean gon have to see me about this...look at your face." I gently touched his cheek.

"How? Just you? You going to end up worse than me,"

"You know my cousins from out of town,"

"Yeah, but they might," Kayon didn't even wanna say

"They won't, I'll tell them they can't go that far." I looked back at Micky sleep. "He been here all night, he really cares for you.

"I know," Kayon tried smiling.

"Get some rest, when they discharge you I will be over to the house to see you."

"Be careful aaight?" We held hands down on the bed. "Just, please be careful," he licked his dry lips. "come back to me."

I leaned down. "I promise rather we're together or not, I'm always coming back to you, to see bout you, to tell you I love you...and beat a nigga ass bout you here and there."

"You know I love you too, Zo."

"Should I wake Micky on my way out?"

"Yes,"

I tapped his shoulder and Micky woke up. "Someone's waiting for you..."

He looked around me and saw Kayon. "He jumped up and ran to him. I made my way out the room, stopping for a second to watch them. Then I turned to leave. Now it was time to make that phone call, I bet Sean was laughing it up with his dumb ass crew, but believe me, they would be laughing for long. My cousins only meant business, this would be over the moment they get in town.

Sean smh...should Lonzo just leave it alone or get revenge for Kayon?
