Kayon
Gma asked him to cut the grass, and he never gave her a hard time about anything. He owed her that much.
Truth was, he owed her everything.
She'd tried her best to reunite him with his mother, but his mom always chose men over him. In the end, it was Gma who pulled him out of the shithole he used to live in.
None of that stopped him from loving his mother.
Nothing ever would.
It didn't change the fact that she had been his first heartbreak.

The wind moved through the yard, keeping the heat from settling on his back while he pushed the mower.
People passing by honked or waved. It was a nice neighborhood overall. Small, though. News traveled fast around here. Secrets never stayed buried long.
Movement caught his eye.
He glanced to his left and saw Micky coming down the driveway.
Shorts. An open shirt. Hair pulled back into a ponytail.
Taking the trash out.
The dude was in shape. Kayon couldn't lie about that.
Girls probably blowing his phone up every day...
...but he wanted dick.
That part never made sense to Kayon.
The mower suddenly made a sharp grinding noise.
Before he could react, something shot out from under it.
A rock.
It flew across the yard and smacked Micky hard in the side.
"Shit!"
Kayon killed the mower and sprinted over.
Without thinking, he grabbed Micky and lifted him up onto the hood of the car.
"Let me see."
Micky had his hand pressed to his side. Kayon gently pulled it away so he could look.
The skin was already turning dark, the bruise blooming under the surface. The spot looked tender as hell.
"Did you even check the yard before you started?" Micky winced. "...That hurts."
"I did," Kayon muttered. "Must've missed that one."
He shook his head.
"Come on. Let's get you inside and put some ice on it."
Micky slung an arm around his shoulders as Kayon helped him down from the car.
As soon as they stepped inside, Malani spotted them and rushed over.
"Oh my gosh, what happened?"
"A rock flew from under the mower and hit me," Micky said.
Kayon jogged to the kitchen and came back with a ziplock bag full of ice. He gently lifted Micky's arm and pressed it against the bruise.
"SSSS—"
Malani smacked Kayon's arm.
"Be gentle with him, idiot."
"My bad, Mick."
"I'm good," Micky muttered, wincing. "Just... don't touch it anymore. Please."
Malani sighed. "We were just about to go to the store, but thanks to you..."
