Kayon

Gma asked him to cut the grass and he never was difficult with her. He was indebted to her and she really was like a grandmother to him. She tried her best to be sure he was reunited with his mother, but she chose men over him. It was Gma that rescued him from the shithole he once lived in, regardless of the circumstances, he still loved his mom. There wasn't anything that could alter the way he felt about her. It didn't change the fact that she was his first heartbreak.

It was a windy day so, the heat wasn't just sitting on his back baking him. People passed by blowing their horns to speak, it was a nice neighborhood, overall. It small so word travels fast and you really couldn't keep anything a secret for long. He saw a a figure to his far left, he turned to see Micky. He was in some shorts, a open shirt and his hair in a ponytail. He was taking the trash out, he was in shape, Kayon couldn't hate. Girls probably be all in his inbox but he wants niggas, shit didn't make sense. The lawnmower made a crazy noise, he must have ran over a rock or something because it flew from underneath the lawnmower and hit Micky right in the side.

He quickly turned of the mower and sprinted to his aide, without even thinking he lifted him up on the car. "Let me see," Kayon moved his hand so he could get a look. It was starting to already bruise and very sensitive, Micky wouldn't even let him touch it.

"Did you not look around the yard before you started? ... it hurts."

"I know, I did but I must've missed that, let me help you inside and get some ice." Micky put his arm around him as he helps him down from the car.

Once inside, Malani sees them. She runs over to assess the problem. "Oh my gosh, what happened?"

Kayon runs to get ice.

"A rock flew from under the mower and hit me."

Kayon returned with ice inside a ziplock bag. He lifted Mickys arm and placed it gently on his side. "sssssss....."

Malani hit Kayon. "Be gentle with him, idiot."

"My bad Mick,"

"I'm good, just don't touch it anymore...please."

"We were just getting ready to go to the store, but thanks to you.."

"I'll sit with him until you come back, aaight?" Kayon wanted to get her off his case.

She rolled her eyes but clearly she agreed. "You good with that?" She gazed at him in a way that was, different.

"Yeah, that will be okay." Micky looked at me as if he knew, I saw something in the way their eyes connected. She even seemed to give off shy vibes.

"Nice to see you giving a fuck again," she grabbed her keys and left.

He turned to look at Micky. "Don't ask aaight."

Kayon pulled his bottom lip between his teeth, his cheeks hurting, trying hard not to smile. "I know that look, when lines between friends have been crossed."

"Kayon, please.."

"Did you two?"

"No,"

"Thought you only liked boys.." Kayon found this humorous.

"I only fuck boys, I might suck a tittie or play with the cat..."

"That's what you did with her...you know she got the biggest crush on you right?"

"I didn't say anything happened and Malani is just fascinated with me, she will realize it's nothing more than that."

"Fuck outta here...she is going to hold on to whatever you do to her, so I hope in your case, it was nothing."

He watched Micky and could tell he was thinking things over.

"and what makes you so fascinating?"

A small smirk slowly appeared across his face. "Wouldn't you wanna know?"

"Naw, I really could careless but you so damn sure...so what is it?"

"Whenever you really wanna know, leave your room door unlocked." He licked his lips then titled his head in my direction.

"Nigga, never." I took the remote from the coffee table and turned the tv on.

After watching tv for a little I paused it. "Question though?"

"I'm listening,"

"How you knew...that you was the way you are?"

Micky

Micky smiled.

"Man...see, I'm just having a conversation, don't make it awkward. I just wanna understand and be educated."

"It's nice...can I say without you getting mad? Like every thing is off record, me just...."

"Naw naw, it's cool we just talking I can't trip if I don't like the answer."

I cleared my throat, trying to gain the confidence to speak freely. "I always just found guys in movies and tv series attractive. Like, the women would be pretty but it didn't catch my attention like the guys did. Even at school with teachers and then summers here with you..." I turned my head from him and he did too, almost like it was difficult for him to process.

"I tried watching a gay porno once and my shit never got hard so fast. I won't lie, it scared me at first. I really felt ashamed, especially since some people already had their suspicions of me. You know I ain't good in sports."

"At all." Kayon shifted a bit on the couch, he was trying not to seem writer out probably.

"That night, the one you don't like me to talk about...it confirmed it, and gave me the courage to come out when I got home. Just seeing how you were handling the situation with your moms, it helped me with mine."

Kayon was silent. Just staring down at his hands, running his thumb over the remote.

"I wish you could of stayed that summer..."

Micky was surprised to learn this. "Really?"

"Yeah, you remember that one time we went to the store for Gma? To get the butter and milk?"

I laughed thinking about that crazy day. "The damn lady on the bike tried giving us our first blowjobs for a few do..." Micky stopped talking, realizing who that lady was now. "Fuck, Kay I'm sorry.."

"Naw, you ain't know. Hell at first I didn't even recognize my mom but what was sadder is that she was that messed up, she didn't recognize me and would have did that to us, and never thought about it again. "

Micky was so ashamed for laughing about that. "All this time you held that in?"

"Isn't exactly some shit I want to tell anyone, considered taking it to my grave. That was the first time I thought I wouldn't care if she died but as soon as I found out she was getting clean and I could possibly go him with her, I didn't care what she did. You know why that is?" He put his hand next to mine.

"Why?"

"Cause you said if you love someone who isn't capable of loving themselves, and got dealt a bad hand in life, keep forgiving them so you can be at peace."

I could tell he wanted to hold my hand but was nervous to make the first move. So I place my hand in his and he put his fingers between mine and we closed our hands. "I never forgot that, Mick."

"Thank you for sharing that with me, I know it wasn't easy."

"It never is and usually I can carry on with this nonchalant persona but you make me not want to...I can be..."

"You, you can be you." I finished for him.

He finally looked up at me. "Yeah, that's it...so to answer your question from the other night...yes, you are important to me."
