Me: Do you want to talk about it? I'm here.

Kayon: I'm straight. Thanks.

Me: If you change your mind... hit me up.

I set my phone down and glanced across the room at Cole and Lani slow dancing. Yeah... I ended up back at his condo. Nothing like last night was happening again though—I was standing firm on that. But then my brows pulled together. What is she doing? Lani started peeling off her clothes, and Cole followed her lead. No. Absolutely not. That wasn't happening tonight. I pushed myself up, my legs still a little unsteady, and tried making my way toward the guest room. I almost made it past them before catching my foot on the rug. My balance gave out, but Cole caught me before I could hit the floor. Now I was in his arms, our faces close enough that I could feel the warmth coming off his skin. "Careful," he said quietly, steadying me. "Can't have you falling..." Something about the way he said it made the words feel heavier than they sounded.

"Right," I stood up and took a step back, only to bump into her.

"Have fun with us again?"

I turned to face her. "I'm tired, imma go lay down."

When I made it to the bedroom, I stripped down to my shorts. All of Cole's beds were so soft, the pillows were like feathers. A deep slumber was calling my name. I put a pillow between my knees, curled up and closed my eyelids.

Lonzo

The porch light flicked on as we stood at the door while I unlocked it. Once it opened, I stepped aside and let him go in first. He headed straight toward my room, and I followed behind him.

"Need anything before we go in?" I asked.

He just shook his head.

When we got to my room, he sank onto the edge of the bed.

"You should be bringing Chris here tonight, not me."

"The person who's here is the person supposed to be here," I said. "I'm here for you, Kay. Ain't nothing you gonna say that's gonna change that."

He didn't argue. Deep down, he already knew it was true.

"Where she even come from?"

"Wish I knew," I said. "You think somebody dropped her off and kept driving?"

"Possible."

I opened my dresser. "You gonna sleep in that, or you want some of my shorts?"

"The shorts." He paused, then glanced up at me. "You think that's why I'm like that with sex? No attachment and shit?"

His question made me stop and really think about it.

"What you mean?" I asked. "Explain that a little more."

"Like... I can just fuck with no emotion. I don't gotta care about the person." He gave an uneasy laugh. "And I like sex. I think about it way more than I let people know. Maybe I got some kind of problem or some shit. I don't know."

"You mean because of how she sell her body with no emotion?"

He nodded.
