"Do I get to meet your parents this year?" Archie asked during lunch break, sitting down at the table next to Jughead. The boy rocked closer and leaned onto Archie for warmth. Somehow the temperature had dropped so heavily over night.
"I don't think so"
"What? Why not? I get last year, we just started dating, but now it's a year later"
"Because I don't want you to. Look, not every family handles a divorce as well as your family. You won't get to know them, please be fine with that" Archie paused before pulling away.
"'Handles divorce well'? You were there last Christmas and my birthday. They literally fight all the time"
"They're yelling"
"Yes, fighting"
"Well, if yelling already counts as fighting, then you really don't want to be at a Jones' dinner"
"Why?"
"Because yelling is the least that you have to worry about" Jughead sighed exhausted, leaning back onto his boyfriend "My mother is the master of gaslighting, she will twist your own words until you can't believe yourself either. My dad uses that chance to drink and then things start to get really tense when he tries to justify anything, like... wild assumptions get thrown in the way and that just starts all the debate. Believe me, you. don't. want. to. be. there"
"But you are going there, right?"
"Yes?"
"If you go there and have to deal with it, so will I"
"I don't understand. Why would that be the case?"
"Because you're my boyfriend?"
"So?"
"'So'?" Archie chuckled, kissing him on the forehead "Babe, what you have to endure, I will endure. We are in this together, remember?"
"I told you to not use pet names on me, except if it's just the two of us"
"We are alone"
"No, we are not. There are people around us"
"Who don't give a shit about what we talk about" Jughead sighed, dropping that part of the conversation.
"Alright, so you want to come to Christmas dinner, yes?"
"Yes"
"Uhm... okay. I will tell dad that then" Jughead mumbled and Archie hummed, wrapping his arms around his boyfriend.
"I will take care of you, don't worry"
The next two weeks seemed to fly. With a new finale roaming around the corner until last school week, even the little shared time that the two boys had was mostly spent studying.
However, now, with Christmas Eve approaching, Jughead was more than glad to be out of school, and get some badly needed cuddles from Archie.
He spend the 24th at the Andrews'. Mary had come for dinner. She made her usual comment about Archie's bisexuality, that he just couldn't decide and was forcing things on his best friend now, too. Archie tried to explain it to her, yet again, though she didn't seem to listen. Mary and Fred had their usual fighting fit in the living room after Archie and Jughead offered to clean up the table. They exchanged presents after that, though Archie hadn't even opened his before she was gone.
