Leah's P.O.V
We have been in the hospital for hours now, not much movement, I've been hooked up to a monitoring machine. I'm actually feeling quite relaxed at the moment, keeping my mind busy as I play Sodoku. Ellie on the other hand...
"Was the car seat in the car?" She asks, temporarily stopping as she paces the hospital room, which she has pretty much done since we got here
"Yes babe...for the tenth time"
Ellie nods, taking a seat, looking deep in thought.
"Are you alright?" I ask
"Me? Yeah. I'm good. Are you?"
"Yeah, I'm fine" I smile "Have you told your Mum and Dad?"
"Fuck" Ellie stands up "No. Should I do that?"
I can't help but laugh lightly
"I should do that shouldn't I" Ellie says as she reaches for her phone "What do I say?"
"Er...That the baby is on it's way" I smile
"Right" Ellie nods, turning back to me "Fuck. It actually is isn't it"
"Yeah..it is"
Ellie leaves the room, I expected her to be nervous, but I didn't expect her to be this nervous. I think people often forget about the other parent during labour, and pregnancy. Especially this bit, when I'm not actually in full blown labour and not much is really going on. There is no doubt in my mind that I am about to give birth, I've carried this baby for almost 9 months. I've felt every single kick and every single movement, the bond is already somewhat created, I've felt like a Mum from the minute I was told I was pregnant. I can't speak for Ellie, but I imagine it may be different, one minute its your going to be a parent, the next minute you are a parent.
"How did it go?" I ask as Ellie comes back into the room
"Well from the screaming in my ear, I assume she's excited" Ellie smiles
"Is she in the car on the way down here already" I laugh
"She would be if I didn't say no" Ellie takes a seat on the chair
"You said no?"
"Yeah, I told her to give us a few days" Ellie doesn't look at me as she buries her head in her phone
"Why?"
"Well..I thought" Ellie looks up at me "I thought we might just need a few days...I don't want us to be, well, I don't know. I didn't just want my lot turning up"
"Can I come in?" Our conversation interrupted as my Mum peers her head through the door, a beaming smile on her face, her eyes all red and puffy from the probable millions of tears she has already shed "How are you doing bubs?" Mum comes over to me and kisses my forehead
"I'm fine" I smile
"I told you, you had dropped" Mum smiles at me excitedly
"I know, too comfy in there at the minute though"
"How are you holding up Ellie?" Mum asks
Nothing.
"Ellie?" I say
"Yeah...What? Sorry" Ellie pops her head up, she clearly has no idea what Mum has just said "Cuppa? Coming up" Ellie stands up, Mum looks at me confused, I just shake my head, indicating for Mum to just go with it. Ellie heads to the door, before she stops in her tracks, turns back towards me, walks over, leans down and places a gentle kiss on my forehead "I wont be a minute" she whispers, ok she's still with me in some sort of capacity
