TEMPEST

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊⋆

Sometimes, I wonder how things happen when they do.

I made it a point to only come to Camp Half-Blood when I knew Annabeth wasn't there, so I hadn't been pretty much all summer. Unfortunately, my Iris-messages also stopped going through to Grover. I figured he was busy spreading the news of Pan's death and trying to get the nature spirits to recapture the life of the wild, but he can't pick up a call now and then?

After school ended, I had to tell Percy that I couldn't really stay with him anymore. I was still visiting, of course. Sally and Paul gave me weekends with him (I promise I'm not co-parenting). But, I was really busy trying to keep tabs on the Titan army. After all, I'm the best spy known to man. I can shapeshift, I'm the best liar in the world, and I can't die. I'm the Titans' worst nightmare.

I look like myself as little as possible (unless I'm at Camp or with Percy at his apartment) so it's harder for the Titans to track me. They've become well accustomed to my appearance, or pointers to my appearance. I'm the one that nearly killed Luke, of course. I'm the only one that's gotten that close to killing him so many times. So, as a precaution, I'm constantly disguising myself.

It isn't all bad, though. When I'm not Tempest Montgomery, it's really easy to pretend I'm a little more alive than I actually am. It's easy to convince myself that Annabeth Chase is not in love with me. It's easy to lie and say I was really born fifteen years ago. I can pretend to be someone I'm not. It's comforting.

Isn't that funny?

I also got back in touch with Nico. We hadn't really spoken since Percy turned fifteen, but I was starting to go in and out of the Underworld, which is where Nico spent a lot of his time. You can tell, because he looks sad and angry all the time and he doesn't look like he's seen the sun since he was born (which is saying a lot, since he's about seventy). He gets very annoyed with me and we fight, but we also discuss the concept of death and how we might use our powers to our advantage. Oh, and he's helping me make my own powers stronger, but we'll get to that later.

Unfortunately, Nico learned that he can control me.

"Come, come," he snickered. He wagged his hand and my legs moved on their own through the darkness.

"Fuck you, bro," I growled. Nico made me slap myself. It didn't hurt, but it was disrespectful.

We made it to the banks of the River Styx. We paused, and Nico made me do the macarena. Meanwhile, Styx materialized in front of us, her black hair flat against her skull and dripping wet. She's pretty, by the way. Very pretty. All of the Oceanids are. She's a little different than her sisters, though, since her river flows through the Underworld. She's gothic and mean and very very hot.

"Hello, Lady Styx," Nico said.

I kept fucking dancing. "Not my fault."

She looked at me with curious, black eyes. Ever since I pulled my body out from her river, she's been a little more sympathetic towards me. She knew my body was there, of course, but she wasn't allowed to tell me. I also never really went looking there. I didn't think my body would be at the bottom of Styx, but whatever. She turned back to Nico and said, "What brings you here, Son of Hades?"
