Mrs. O'Leary was the only one happy about the sleeping city.

We found her pigging out at an overturned hot dog stand while the owner was curled up on the sidewalk, sucking his thumb. I can't imagine acting like that as a grown man. Disgusting.

Argus was waiting for us with his hundred eyes wide open. He didn't say anything. He never does. I guess that's because he has an eyeball on his tongue. But his face made it clear he was freaking out. All of his pupils looked like tiny black dots.

We told him what we'd learned in Olympus, and how the gods would not be riding to the rescue. Argus rolled his eyes in disgust, which looked pretty psychedelic since it made his whole body swirl.

"You'd better get back to camp," said Percy. "Guard it as best you can."

He pointed at Percy and raised his eyebrow quizzically.

"I'm staying," Percy said.

"Hey," Tempest nodded to Argus. "If you can, try to make those no-good Ares kids pay us a visit. Maybe make up a lie and say a bunch of us already died."

Argus nodded, like this satisfied him. He looked at me and drew a circle in the air with his finger, which I instantly understood.

"Yes. I think it's time."

"Time for what?" Tempest asked. It's so strange for her to be so out of the loop. I scolded myself for that, since she would've been fully understanding of everything if I hadn't been a dumbass for a year.

Argus rummaged around in the back of his van. He brought out a bronze shield and passed it to me. It looked pretty much standard issue- the same kind of round shield we always used in capture the flag- but I could easily feel the magic within. When I set it on the ground, the reflection on the polished metal changed from sky and buildings to the Statue of Liberty- which wasn't anywhere close to us.

"Whoa," Percy breathed. "A video shield."

Tempest used his shoulder as an armrest. "Badass. Way cooler than your sword. Can we watch Die Hard on this thing?"

Percy's face lit up. "YEAH! We should watch Die Hard!"

"It's a live feed, idiots," I grumbled. "One of Daedalus's ideas. I had Beckendorf make this before-" I glanced at Silena and thought better of myself. "Um, anyway, the shield bends sunlight or moonlight from anywhere in the world to create a reflection-"

"Okay, pause," Tempest said. "What if we just bend the sunlight to a TV showing Die Hard? Then we can watch Die Hard on this thing."

"Why would we watch Die hard on my shield?!" I demanded.

"Because it's Die Hard," Percy scoffed, like this was a perfect answer.

I blinked. "Die Hard is overrated."

That was a mistake.

"WHAT?!"

"DIE HARD IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER!"

"YOU CAN'T SAY THAT ABOUT DIE HARD, ANNE!"
