Shinobu POV:
The two blue lights kept shining, one in the west, the other in the east.
I didn't understand. They couldn't both be Tomioka, could it? But maybe they were...? Was he trying to tell me something? If so, I couldn't tell what it was.
But no time to waste. He could be in trouble, or he could have found the demon already. I mentally made a wild guess and ran for the light in the east.
Little did I know, he was far from there.
Giyu POV:
I remained in my hiding spot for a few more minutes, assessing the demon's strengths and weaknesses before preparing to slice an unexpected blade through it's throat. Would one strike do it? Probably not. After all, it was Upper Rank 2.
Suddenly, a purple light sounded in the distance.
Shinobu POV:
He wasn't there at the first blue light or at the second. I'd checked both.
That was when I realised my stupid mistake. The flare signals Oyakata-sama had given us didn't last. They were one short spark, and that was it. Meanwhile, the blue signals I'd seen had lasted well until I'd arrived at the two empty clearings.
I'd been fooled. And now I had no idea who was trying to set me up, and I had a bad feeling they were trying to stall me.
Worst of all, I had no idea where Tomioka was. So, the best way to find him: I sent up my purple signal. If he wasn't in trouble, he'd come find me.
At least, I hoped he would.
A/N: so far these signals seem to be a heap of trouble... are they more than they're worth?
