Tanjiro POV:

I made my way to Tomioka's room at the Butterfly Mansion holding the basket of cookies Nezuko had made. We had both made our way to the Butterfly Mansion to see Tomioka and Shinobu, but Nezuko got caught up with Kanao and the two were happily playing together. 

Word had quickly spread about Tomioka and Shinobu's injuries battling the infamous Upper Rank 2 demon. I'd come to visit them both as much as possible ever since. I owed it to Tomioka; he'd been an idol-type figure to me as such a great pillar, and he'd given Nezuko a chance. Shinobu was also wise, always kind to me, and she deserved as many cookies as she got. 

She'd woken a few weeks ago and was on the mend, according to Kanae. So today I went to Tomioka's room, gently opening and closing the door behind me. 

He was still there, lying on the white-clothed bed, wearing a hospital gown and limbs pale. Though I could swear today there was a bit more colour in his cheeks. 

I carefully set the basket down on the bedside table. If he woke up, he would have something nice to greet him, and if he didn't Kanae could have them. Though I hated to think of him not waking up. 

I perched on a short stool, looking at him. His hair had grown out again, and he looked almost peaceful with his eyes closed lying there, like he was asleep. 

When I'd come in Kanae had invited me to have a cup of tea with her. She'd told me that recently Shinobu had been nursing Tomioka instead of her. She said Shinobu was pretty desperate to do it herself, and maybe her new methods were working. I checked Tomioka's heart rate monitor. Slightly better, I guess? I wasn't really medically informed. 

I carefully rearranged the sheet and told him all about my day. How I'd been training with Zenitsu to get his battle strategy right (aka falling asleep quickly), how Nezuko and Inosuke had gotten into a fight, how I had almost burnt Nezuko's cookies, how I'd perfected another technique today. 

His eyelids fluttered, and before I could even register my hope, his eyes were wide open. 

"TOMIOKA-KUN!" I shouted, so shocked I almost flew off my stool. "You're awake!"

"Ahh... Tanjiro?" Tomioka rubbed his eyes and stared at me for a second, before groaning and lying back. 

Giyu POV:

The world spun. Everything hurt. 

For a second I saw Douma, standing there, his fist raised, ready to strike Shinobu again, but then I registered everything and saw Tanjiro there, sitting beside me and staring at me worriedly. "Are you okay? You're awake? You're awake!"

"Ugh..." I put a hand to my chest. There was assumingly a wound there, and it throbbed badly. "What happened...?"

"You blacked out at the battle after he hit you. Other Hashiras were sent, and don't worry, they said the demon is gone!" Tanjiro beamed. 

"What about... Shinobu?" I blinked groggily. My heart contracted at her name. "Is she.. okay?"

"Yes! She's fine, she's woken up ages ago. She told us you almost sacrificed yourself to save her from dying. She's okay now, Kanae-chan even says she's been the one to nurse you recently."

"Really?" I wasn't quite believing it. Shinobu wouldn't want to nurse me. 

"Kanae-chan said she hasn't checked in on you for ages because Shinobu does it all." Tanjiro explained. "Whatever she's done must have worked, because you're.... awake! Hang on, let me get Kanae-chan so she can check...."

But as soon as Tanjiro left, Shinobu was suddenly there, hands at her chest and staring at me as if I was the only treasure left on the world. "You're.... awake."

I smiled up at her. "Why yes I am."

She launched herself onto me. "TOMIOKA GIYUU YOU STUPID, STUPID PERSON, FRICK YOU!!"

I grinned. "Wouldn't have done it in any other way."
