Shinobu POV:

The moment I saw Giyu, lying behind the bush, I shunned any emotional thoughts I had and erased the panic from my head, immediately assessing him medically.

There was a small splatter of blood on the floor, but not too much, so it didn't seem that bad yet. He was sweating and shivery, and clutching his stomach, signs of a fever. Clearly the stomach-ache was a side effect of the blood.

Immediately I bent down and took his temperature, then forced a little white pill and forced it down his throat. Before I could even think of the other villagers who might have worse symptoms, I called the Kazuki to make him their first priority.

I turned to Sabito, face pale and dead serious. "You said the whole village is in lockdown?"

"Yes. I don't know how long for, but according to the girl Giyu talked to, her parents seemed to be at the brink of death." Sabito winced. "Although, as far as I know, that could be true for all the villagers too."

I nodded, then turned to the Kazuki. "Barge into every hut. Don't bother to knock. Find anyone with any blood around them, or coughing blood, give them one of these white pills and then put them on a stretcher and take them immediately to the Butterfly Mansion."

Me and Kanae quickly distributed bottles of white pills to the Kazuki, and then split up to go through as many villagers as we could.

Author POV:

Shinobu didn't stop to think about Giyu as she fed pills to sick people and shouted orders at the growing amount of Kazuki. She couldn't. There was no time. As a doctor, she valued these people's lives, and she knew she couldn't let her feelings stop her from doing the best job she could.

The pills were designed to pause a certain organ in the body so that any effects of any lung/stomach illness, and in this case the blood being coughed up was clearly from a damaged organ. The disease could be spread from an animal, designed to eat away or contaminate an organ that resulted in the blood being coughed.

The pills should stop the blood for now, but it wouldn't forever. She and Kanae would have to review the effects, diagnose the disease, and get a team of doctors in as soon as possible.

Shinobu didn't stop giving people white pills. It took until almost sunset when finally the last coughing, protesting person was transported away in a van.

Shinobu was suprised at the amount of people who had protested. Some were incredibly desperate, clawing at the Kazuki and trying to run off even in their immensely sick state. They clearly feared outside people. Shinobu wondered if the illness possibly affected mental health and the sanity of the mind.

"Shinobu." Kanae went up to her younger sister. "Good job. How are you?"

"I'm... okay." Shinobu sighed, exhaustion suddenly settling in her shoulders. "This is just so... I don't know. It's terrifying."

"It is." Kanae agreed quietly. She hugged Shinobu, and Shinobu let herself be hugged, as she tried not to think of the suffering people she'd just saved. She felt horrible for not knowing about this sooner.

These poor people who had been dying alone in their homes, locked in for fear...  it sounded familiar.
