Chapter 5

Alex wakes up to an empty house on the couch covered with her jacket. Alex turns the TV on and sits on the couch until she's sure Adrian would be at the bus stop. Then Alex decided that she wasn't going to go to school today. Tuesday came and passed. Wensday went by super fast, and Thursday seemed to go really slow as well as Friday. Beth kept texting her but she doesn't answer. Alex doesn't want to explain what happened to beth...or anyone. Alex was relieved that she doesn't have to feel guilty about not going to school because its the weekenweekend. Alexes parents came home around 6, they all decided that cooking was not fun so they went out to eat. Then Sunday came and they went to church and then back home and watched a movie together that they had to get from red box. Alex woke up early the next morning almost pulsing with excitement. Her mom is up when Alex gets down the stairs." What are you doing up so early?" Her mom asked as she gets breakfast." Couldn't get back to sleep so I thought I could eat with you this morning." Her mother smiles and walks over and gives her a kiss on the forehead." Alright I am leaving dont freeze outside at that bus stop." Alex waits till her mother it completely gone to grab her school stuff and hurry outside. Adrian is sitting on the bunch with his elbows on his knees and his hands covering his face. She walks over to the bench and sits down, he looks up and smiles out of a bruised face." Where were you all last week?" He asked as he goes back to the position he was in before." Like you said that night I was traumatized so I took some time to heal from it. Adrian stares at her." Why were you down that way anyway?" He's asked and Alex knows she has to tell him the truth since he had saved her.
" I was following you."
"Why?"
" Cause you're new and you were heading into the wort part of the city!" She yells as she gets irritated.
" I have a job!" He has back.
" In a week since living here?"
" yeah its with my dad. You really shouldn't have been down that way." Alex is furious now.
" Well I wouldn't have been down that way if it wasn't for you!" Alex watches as pain washes over his bruised face.
" Your right it is my fault I'm just a piece of trash." Adrian says in a pain filled voice as the bus comes. Adrian boards first and sits in the same seat as Monday of last week. Alex makes a choice and sits with him. He doesn't sit up against the seat all the way. He is leaning forward." What's wrong with you?" Alex askes curious about why he is doing everything possible not to touch his back." Why do you care? I'll just get you hurt remember?" The bus hits a pot hole and adrians back hits the seat. Alex watches as he grinds his teeth, holds his breath, and turns red. There has to be something seriously wrong she says to herself.
