Chapter 15

Alex wakes up to the sound of his father screaming and something hitting another. She sits up and see's Adrian curled into a ball on the floor while her dad hits him with a wooden bat. "Dad! Dad stop!" Her father stops and looks at her then continues. She quickly gets up runs and stands in front of Adrian. Alex has adrians shirt on and nothing else. Her dad looks at her then his face softens. "How could you... Did we do something wrong... Why?"
"I love him and if you can't love him too then I am leaving. Now leave! I don't want to see you!" Her father slowly backs out of the room. Alex hurrys and turns around, Adrian is covered in blood and his arm is going in two different ways. "Adrian! Adrian! Wake up!" Adrians eyes flutter then open a tiny bit and look at her. "Why would you let him do that to you! You could have fought him in self defense!"
"You would have hated me if I hit your father, besides I froze."
"What do you mean you froze?"
"He told me I was in a world of pain and I couldn't... He reminded me of all the times I didn't fight back and I froze. I'm sorry." Adrian shuts his eyes and goes unconscious. Alex grabs her cell phone and dials 911. "Nine-one-one what is your emergency?"
"My boyfriend has been beaten with a bat!"
"Alright miss what is your address?"
" 21 junctiour drive please hurry!" Alex hangs up and goes back to helping Adrian. Her father walks into the room. "You meany."
"He didn't do anything to defend himself!"
"He froze because you remind him of his dad! His dad beats him every day!" Alex rolls Adrian over onto his stomach, his screams could pierce diamonds. Her father looks at the lashes down his back. "He got these saving me from being raped by a group of thugs! He didn't fight because he couldn't! He didn't do anything! I told him to come here because he got away from his dad and wasn't safe! I pushed him to his limit and still kept going! He stopped even after being shit-faced! Now get away from me!" Her father leaves and Alex rolls Adrian back over so he doesn't hurt as much. The ambulance arrives a few minutes later and put him on a stretcher. Alex walks by the police car holding her dad. "Do you want to ride with him?" One of the ambulance workers ask her. "Yes thank you." She climbs in after him and they close the doors. They are off to the hospital in a matter of moments. She they get to the hospital Alex is escorted down to the waiting room. Her mother is waiting there crying. "They arrested your father and once he explained everything about his other injurys they arrested his father.." Alex watches as doctors hurry past. Alex sits down and falls asleep and dreams about Adrian and her last night. He had been laughing about something stupid when she pulled him out of the warehouse and walked them to her house. She wakes to a doctor standing over her. "Alex? Are you Alex?"
"Yes. Yes I am Alex is everything okay?"
"Yes you can see him now. He's out of surgery." Alex follows the doctor to a room on the fourth floor. She gets into the room and she sees how bad he looks. His face is bruised. He has a tube Dow his throat and his left arm in a cast. "He has a couple broken ribs and he can't breath by himself right now. To save him a lot of pain we put him in a chemically induced coma. You can be with him but he won't know here until he wakes up in a few days." Alex looks up at him. "Thank you doctor." She walks over and sits on the bed right next to him. She grabs his hand and holds it while looking at his bruised knuckles.
