Val POV

I could hear Lynne's whole conversation. John was in the hallway with me listening.

"Me too. All I know is that his stepdad wants something from my dad and I'm basically bait." Lynne said to Zendaya.

"Start a fire." John said out of nowhere.

"What?"

"Do it. Start a fire."

"No. What if someone sees me or if they get hurt."

"They won't get hurt just start it."

One of my powers is controlling weather. Since John is one if the most powerful vampires in the world, he has the joy of having various powers and when he turns people (like me and my brother and my step brother) we get some of the benefits from his powers along with the basic powers that all vampires have.

I focused my attention to the door and soon enough it burst into flames. I knew John was controlling me. I would never use my powers to put someone in danger for no reason. Or at least not Lynne and Zendayachka.

After a few minutes I heard a thud.

I looked at John who was intently staring at me. Then there was another thud.

John's eyes returned to their normal shade of brown and he pushed the door open.

"Take Zendaya and clean her up and make sure she doesn't remember this."

I nodded and followed John into the bathroom.

"You've got to be careful what you say." John said picking up Brooklyn.

Please don't hurt her.

I carried Daya into the janitor's closet and turned the light on.

I pulled out a cloth from my back pocket and made it cold then placed it on her head.

I stood up and paced back and fourth. I needed to stop John. Or at least tell Brooklyn the truth. But there is no way I could do that. John would either catch me or Brooklyn wouldn't believe me. And if I make John angry, not only will he kill me but he would use my feelings for Brooklyn against me also.

There is no way I can protect Brooklyn without hurting her. Maybe it's just best if I stay away from her.

I heard movement but was too deep in my thoughts to pay it any mind to it.

"Val?"

I turned around to see Zendaya now sitting up.

"Hey Z."

"What happened? Why am I in the janitor's closet?"

"What do you remember?"

"I don't remember passing out in the janitor's closet."

"Alright. How do you feel?"

"I have a headache but I'll be fine."

"Do you wanna go to the nurse?"

"No."

"Okay." I said helping Zendaya to her feet. Before she could utter another word I had her pinned against the wall.

"Val? What are you doing?"

"I'm sorry Zendayachka...I'm not going to hurt you."

I met her eyes they, showed so much fear. "You won't remember this." I said compelling her.

I stepped back and broke the trance.

"You okay?"

She nodded and we left the closet.
