Brooklyn POV

"Hello?" I said as I walked into the house.

I could hear the water running.

Who was in my house? And why are they cooking things?

"Daddy?"

"Close but no cigar." a familiar voice said.

"Grandma?" I said walking into the kitchen.

"Hey Sugarplum." She said kissing my head.

"Grandma..." I groaned.

"What? No one's here."

"Yeah but... I'm too old to be called Sugarplum."

"Alright."

"Thank you."

"Cupcake." She teased.

"Grandma..." I groaned.

My phone rang. I didn't bother looking at the caller ID. I figured it was Witney calling cause I left school without an explanation.

"Hey look I can explain."

"Explain what?" A man's voice said.

"Oh- uh- hi daddy. I'm sorry I was expecting someone else."

"Like who?"

"Witney."

"Why? You just spent the whole day with her."

"She told me she would call before she came over."

"Oh. okay."

"Yeah... speaking of coming over.. Guess who's here." I said.

"I don't know."

"Grandma."

"She is?"

"Yeah.. why didn't you tell me she was coming?"

"Because she didn't tell me she was coming." My dad said.

"She scared the crap out of me."

"Well tell her I said hi."

"I will."

"Alright. I might be home early, if all goes well."

"Really?"

"Yep."

"When do you think you'll be home?"

"Friday. And if I'm home I'll pick you up after school and we can go out and hang with Grandma. How does that sound?"

"Sounds fine to me."

"Alright then it's a date."

"Okay." I said slightly laughing.

"I'll talk to you tomorrow."

"Okay."

"Later Pumpkin."

"Bye Daddy." I said hanging up.

I put my phone back in my pocket and went back into the kitchen.

"What time did you get here?" I asked my grandma taking a cookie off the cookie sheet.

"An hour or two before you got home. Why are you home so early?"

"They dismissed us early."

"Oh.."

Which reminds me I need to freak out later.

I grabbed another cookie and my backpack and started upstairs when the doorbell rang. I tossed my bag to the top if the stairs.

"I'LL GET IT!" I yelled.

I opened the door and since it was Witney I stepped outside.

"Hey what happened to you today?" She asked.

"I uh- wasn't feeling well, so I got sent home."

She raised an eyebrow.

"Fine. There was a little bit of a family emergency so I had to come home early and save the day."

"You suck at lying."

"I know." I said shamefully.

"You hungry?" She asked.

I shrugged and went back inside.

"Grandma I'll be back I'm going out with Witney."

"OK!"
