JARREN
"Scalpel." I commanded while operating my patient. "Forcep." I added and the assistant nurse did automatically give me the instrument.
It's been 3 hours since the operation had begun. Tumutulo na ang pawis ko sa suot kong surgical gown but I don't mind, as long as my patient survives.
I felt guilty upon leaving Ely in her room. Well, I don't have a choice.
I'm not mad at her. Tch! Nagbibiro lang ako.
The operation lasted for five hours. I sat on the chair after securing that my patient is still alive after the operation. "I'm pretty sure that his minor amnesia would be gone after the operation." I said still sitting on the chair outside the operating room.
"How would you know?" Mara asked sitting beside me.
"I just knew." I casually replied.
"What I mean is, did you handle his case in the past?"
"Nope, I just knew because I'm a neurosurgeon."
Mara pouted. "You're so smart. I can't beat you on that."
I laughed a little before patting her head. "Everything is not a competition, Mara. You're good at your own field." I replied looking at her. "Trust me."
She sighed. "Muntik na akong mamatay kanina." She suddenly said resting her head on my left shoulder.
"Relax, he's just too scared to lose his brother."
"What if he suddenly pull the trigger?"
"Hindi naman nangyari."
"But still, it's so risky. What if hindi ka dumating?"
"Edi deads ka." I replied then laugh.
I just laughed again. "How was your patient?" I asked pertaining to the aggressive man a while ago.
"Your conclusion was true. He's in coma." Nakanguso niyang sagot.
"I see." Sabi ko nalang habang tumatango.
Tumayo ako at tumingin sa kanya. "I'm going, Mara. See you tomorrow."
"Huh? Hindi ka uuwi?"
I nodded and she just looked at me with confusion. "You're into something. Spill it."
"Next time nalang. Gotta go. Bye!" Palusot ko bago nagmamadaling umalis.
"You! Comeback here!" She shouted and I just laughed leaving her behind.
My feet lead me to the room where I feel like I belong. I sighed. Is she asleep by now? Did she already eat?
I reached for my phone and called her private nurse. "Hello?" I heard a gentle voice on the other line.
"Hello, Freyja. I want you to go to my lab and get the vials there in green label together with the syringes and bring it to Ms. Houston's room." I said.
