Chapter 48

Muli akong bumalik sa bahay, technically, magkapit-bahay lang naman kami. Nawala rin sa isipan ko si Lola Soledad at Ate Myrna but El already informed them so I guessed it's fine? Instead, I was more anxious about the trial.

And maybe thinking about it now, It is probably better if I don't participate with it. Just hearing the information about the case already stresses me out and I can't further imagine participating in it.

It won't do me good, especially that I am pregnant. It will only cause me too much stress.

"You think that trial will last long?" I looked at Ervine as he ate his dinner.

I already finished mine at nagsabay kami ni El. Dumating naman siya pagkatapos namin. I do not want to ask El all about it because he forbids me too. He doesn't want me involved in the case, kahit pag usapan ay ayaw niya.

Ngumisi siya sa akin. "I don't know, but for sure may hatol kaagad yan. You knew El's family."

Napahinga ako ng malalim at unti-unting tumango.

"Do you wanna talk to your parents?" Nag-aalala nitong tanong.

Hindi ko alam, takot ako para sa anak ko. My parents didn't physically hurts me before but I don't wanna take the risk, lalo na at alam kung mas lalong tumindi ang galit nila para sa akin.

"Pwede ka naming samahan, and El's with you."

Naangat ang tingin ko sa kanya. But of course, I badly wanted to talk to them. Mga magulang ko pa rin sila pero katulad ng sinabi ko, hindi na lang sarili ko ang kailangan kong ikonsidera.

"Pag-iisipan ko pa." And that's all I could say.

Days passed more and I became more anxious, and when the day of the trial came, aligaga na ako sa bahay. El attended the case of course habang naghihintay lang kami nina Ervine at El sa bahay.

I walked back and forth in the sala as we waited for El for any updates.

“Nikah, calm down.” Ungot ni Joaquin habang nakatingala sa akin mula sa pagkakahiga sa sofa.

“I am sure malapit na sila, and I am sure too that your parents will be in jail the next time.”

Napatingin ako kay Ervine, kinakabahan. I sat down and drank some water, pati sina Ate Myrna at Lola ay kapwa ko rin na hindi mapakali at kanina pa nakatingin sa akin ng may pag aalala.

We waited for a few minutes more and when we heard our gate open, I stood up as fast as possible and walked towards the door. Hawak-hawak ko ang tiyan ko at nang makitang kong bumaba si El mula sa sasakyan niya halos tumakbo na ako.

He looked so serious while closing his door but when he noticed my presence, kaagad na lumambot ang mga mata nito.

“Anong nangyari, El?” Kinakabahan kong tanong.

Tumalim ang tingin niya sa akin at umigting ang kanyang mga panga.

“Let’s calm down, Nikah.” He sighed heavily and gave me a peck on the lips.

Huminga ako ng malalim at kaagad niya akong inakay papasok.

We all looked at him as he drank his glass of water. Lola and Atr Myrna were both by my side, both holding me, calming me.

El all looked at us until his eyes stopped on mine. The anticipation is already killing me.

“We’ll only have one more trial and they will be sentence.”

Napahigpit ang kapit ko kay Lola Soledad. Mabilis nga ang daloy ng kaso.

“And we have gathered enough evidence for that matter.”
