Your phone dings with a message, and you check it to see Sanji saying he's outside. You walk to his car, opening the door and sitting down. Sanji greets you with a kiss. "Good evening, my dear Y/N.'
"Evening, Sanji," you say, smiling.
At his house, Sanji has prepared a variety of ingredients, and you can see the makings of an elaborate meal. "This looks like it'll make a lot of food," you remark.
Sanji chuckles, shrugging. "It's a habit of mine. I can't help but make a lot. Don't worry; it won't go to waste.
"There are actually two recipes," Sanji admits. "One's a pastry, the other is what one would consider 'real' food." He walks over to a section where it seems more dessert-focused. "It's what's called an Apple Croustade. It's notoriously difficult to make, although the directions are straightforward." As Sanji shows you the recipe, he talks animatedly. His love for cooking is infectious. "I made the phyllo dough a few days ago, so it's fresh. What we need to do is lay a sheet of the dough down-" he demonstrates as he speaks, spreading out some dough on the pan. "Then put melted butter and sprinkle some sugar. After this, we just repeat that three more times." Sanji flashes you a grin. "Think you can do it?"
"Seems simple enough, right?" you say as you lay another sheet on the one he did. Sanji watches you do one layer before he walks away to start on the 'real' food. You work in content silence, only interrupted by a few questions. As you lay out the apple slices, you think, Sanji was right. Cooking with a pro is fun. You drizzle the remaining butter on it as Sanji comes over to check on your progress. He smiles. "Well done, Y/N. This looks amazing." He gives you a high five, and you grin, his praise exhilarating. You put the croustade in the oven and drift over to Sanji, who is searing some vegetables and beef in a pan. "This will be Daube de Bœuf a la Gasconne. One of the interesting things about it..." He drops in some chopped chocolate. "...is that it has chocolate in it."You raise a brow. "Chocolate?"
He laughs. "Make enough recipes, and you'll no longer be shocked by out-of-pocket ingredients. As the chocolate melts, he stirs the now apparent stew. "And it's done." As if on cue, the oven beeps, and Sanji removes the now baked Apple Croustade, which has a pleasantly brown surface. "It's perfect," he says. "And now, we can enjoy the fruits of our labor." Sanji serves portions from both the croustade and the Daube de Bœuf, and the two of you sit down at the table. The first thing you try is the croustade, which is delightfully flaky with a hint of cinnamon – like a fancy apple pie. *The look on your face must say it all because Sanji chuckles. "It's good, hm?"
You nod, having no words to describe the pastry. Your reaction is similar to the Daube de Bœuf , and you quickly clean your plate. The two of you do the dishes, and when you finish, Sanji checks his phone for the time. Smiling, he shows it to you, and the phone reads 12:01. He pulls you in for a hug and murmurs, "Happy New Year."
