Happy New Year! (Dracule Mihawk x Reader)

You shoot Mihawk a message saying you're at his door, not wanting to knock at the hour. It's about 10 pm, and you're fairly certain you'd be charged with public disturbance if you knocked. Mihawk opens the door, and you walk in. "Evening, Y/N. Thanks for coming."

You smile. "You don't have to thank me."

As the two of you walk to the balcony, he says, "But I want to."

Outside, you see Mihawk has set up two chairs, with a table and exactly 1 bottle of wine. You laugh at the sight. "It wouldn't be complete without your best friend, right?"

Mihawk chuckles. "It's completed by you. The wine just compliments it."

You sit down, and the two of you engage in quiet conversation as you wait for midnight. The eclipse is supposed to start at 11:30, but prime viewing time is at 12. What a nice way to spend the rest of the year, you think contently. Soon, the moon seems to shift into place, and suddenly, it's a shadow against a bright white light. You gasp softly, the sight breathtaking.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Mihawk murmurs. "It gets even better. Watch."

The view slowly shifts to a clouded crescent moon, and then a ring of what seems like fire around a still-shadowed moon. For a while, all you can do is stare, conversation forgotten. Then, you cast a look at Mihawk. He's swirling his glass of wine thoughtfully, watching you. "Well?" he says, a knowing smile on his face.

"I... It's amazing. I'm not sure what else to say to describe it," you admit. Mihawk looks back at the sky, still smiling.

"Wait, have you seen one of these before? You told me they only appear every 133 years."

Mihawk just sips his wine, that slight grin still on his face. He shrugs. "Look at the time," he says instead. Sure enough, it's 12:07, and the new year is already here. "Happy New Year," he says.
