A/N: as many of you probably know, the REM stage of sleep is when you dream. it stands for rapid eye movement, and your eyes actually move around rapidly, as if taking in an image (which is, i guess, what theyre doing, bc you're looking around the dream). this is why one can tell if someone is dreaming my watching their face. tbh tho i don't know how easy or hard this is tho, so if you're an expert and it feels unrealistic, well... just remember its one piece. its not meant to make sense lol :,)

P.S. there are a few requests pending - please be patient, the only reason this got 'priority' is because i started it previously and felt like finishing it :,)

One thing you notice about Law continuously is that he always seems to be working. During the day, he holes himself up in there – and it's a miracle if he were to leave while still at sea. He burns the midnight oil, and you've reached a point where you doubt he even sleeps. But when you expressed this concern to him, he had given you a fleeting look and said, I don't like what the night brings. So I avoid it.

You'd just been puzzled, with more questions than answers, but you hadn't pushed the issue. However, on this particular evening, you had eventually pushed Law to sleep – in his own room, on his own bed, not in a chair. But when you had gone to sleep, you'd awakened not long later after hearing a thud. Curious, you peer out of your shared room with Ikkaku, careful not to wake her. Nothing seemed wrong, but you could swear you had heard something. Padding out into the hallway, you hear the shuffling of sheets and a very familiar voice muttering indistinctly. Law? You tiptoe to his door, gently pushing the door open. Law lays on his bed, hands clenched, face drawn, breathing heavy. Your eyes widen in surprise, and you rush over to him. As a member of the Heart Pirates, you know a little about medicine, so you do your best to check his vitals with nothing but your senses. Heart rate is elevated... and breathing very erratic. One more glance at his face tells you everything you need to know, and the realization dawns upon you. He's dreaming. A nightmare?

Suddenly, his words about disliking the night and what it brings make all too much sense. You shake him lightly, but he doesn't stir.

"Lami..." he mutters, the name completely unfamiliar to you. Just what is he seeing? Suddenly, he stills. Then, all of a sudden, he thrashes, limbs wild, and you jump back, narrowly dodging an arm. His eyes fly open, and he shoots upwards, breathing ragged and eyes wild. To your utter shock, he's shaking.

You walk towards him slowly, taking a hand in yours. You sit down next to him. I know if I had a nightmare terrible enough to carry over into the waking world, I'd want someone to comfort me, you think.

"Y/N-ya," he says, breathless.

"Law."

"...Why are you in here?" Despite his now suspiciousness, he doesn't move his hand. He doesn't do anything more than sit there, looking at his hand in yours.

"I heard something. I walked into the hallway and heard you." He mutters a curse.

"I'm sorry that I came in," you continue. "I just wanted to make sure you were okay." He doesn't say anything.

"No one else is awake, I think," you offer lamely.

Law just shakes his head, sighing. "You don't need to apologize. I'd rather you see me like this than anyone else," he finishes, his words becoming uncharacteristically quiet.

"What... did you see?" The question is tentative, and you're almost certain it'll be shot down, but he responds.

"My... sister. I was there, unable to move, and Doflamingo was there, too. He..." Law shudders.

"You had a sister?" you ask quietly.

"I had a lot of things," he mutters. "Anyway... thank you."

You smile slightly and, on an impulse, throw your arms around him. "Whatever happened... I'm sorry. But please don't fear the night because of those dreams. You can figure something out."

He's silent for a long time, but then puts an arm around you, holding you close. "Okay."
