As the months and years went by in the Parker-Maximoff household, acceptance over what happened all those years ago with Thanos finally settled in. Peter and Wanda spent all of their time raising their two little kids, who grew bigger every day. Occasionally, they were real menaces and sometimes cost their parents their last bit of patience, at least when they wanted to. However, most of the time they were sweet little kids, whom their parents absolutely adored.
Recently, some of their powers begun to show themselves, which brought a new challenge in the usually peaceful family life. While they have always been exceptionally strong and had quick reflexes, Carol started to make objects fly in the past few weeks. She always had all the fun in the world whenever she did that and Ben liked nothing more than to watch her when she did. Knowing that it made her brother laugh, Carol tried to be extra creative whenever he was watching.
However, from time to time Ben was jealous about Carol’s abilities and no matter how much Peter and Wanda told him that he would most likely also receive these powers at some point, he grew more and more impatient. Wanda on the other hand was glad that Ben’s powers apparently decided to take a little while longer to develop. She already had a lot of work cut out for her if she wanted to teach Carol how to use her powers.
Peter also taught his kids how to life with their other enhancements, as they would were in pre-school now and they couldn’t simply go around and showcase their abilities. It took a lot of convincing on Peter and Wanda’s part to even get them in a pre-school, as most of the principals had their concerns, especially over the safety of the other children. The principal of the pre-school they were visiting now only gave by after Natasha paid him a visit and while neither Peter nor Wanda knew what exactly she said to the principal, they had a pretty good idea, since he now treated Peter, Wanda and the twins overly polite.
Natasha herself was by far the most frequent visitor in their home and the twins, especially Carol, adored her. Ben preferred Steve to Natasha, who also came by from time to time, as he always let him play with his shield. Pepper has returned it to Steve after a few months, saying that she doesn’t want the previous animosity between him and Tony define their whole lives. Pepper herself happily lived in New York with her daughter Morgan. Together with Peter and Wanda, they arranged countless play dates for their kids and Peter was already afraid of the day on which they finally all decide to gang up on their parents.
Kate truly became the twins’ baby sitter every time Peter and Wanda needed one, although they never needed her because of an Avengers level threat, much to Kate’s disappointment. From time to time, Peter and Wanda simply needed some dedicated couple time away from the kids and Kate was always glad to help them. Natasha initially was quite unhappy that Peter and Wanda found somebody else than her to babysit their kids, but once they allowed both of them to watch over the twins at the same time, they never wanted something else ever again. So, from that day on, most of the time both Kate and Natasha watched over the kids whenever Peter and Wanda were away.
Sometimes, Peter had the feeling that the only thing that was keeping Natasha from crumbling depression were the twins. Whenever he came to the Compound alone and Natasha was there, she always seemed to be in a sad mood. Steve regularly tried to get her to move on, but to no avail so far.
On a sunny day in April, nearly five years after Thanos eradicated half of all living being in the universe, Peter just arrived at home from a visit at the Compound with Carol. He lost his feeling for time during the visit, which was the reason why he and Carol returned so late in the evening. Peter parked the car and helped Carol out of her child seat. Once she was free, the four year old instantly ran towards the main door, where Wanda and Ben already awaited their return.
“Did you miss me, darling?” Wanda asked Carol as she lifted her up.
The tired kid only nodded, before she quickly fell asleep in Wanda’s arms. Next to his mother, Ben also looked as if he was close to falling asleep.
