Stunned, Peter walked back into his bedroom. Wanda called after him, but he ignored her. He knew that he would have to apologise to Wanda later on, but right now he simply had no words. Two of his closest friends, people he considered his family, were brand marked as criminals by the world. Peter was sure that the whole situation was not as simple as it seems right now. He was sure that Steve had to have a good reason to flee with the Winter Soldier. James Barnes was his name as Peter learned from Vision this morning. He was Steve’s best friend in the war and when he supposedly was killed during a mission, Steve was shaken to the core.

After a few short minutes, a soft knock came from the door.

“Can I come in?” Wanda asked timidly through the door.

“It’s your room as well,” Peter answered quietly. He wasn’t sure if Wanda heard him, but soon she opened the door and walked inside. She sat down next to Peter, who was lying on his back in the bed.

“Steve is a smart man, he knows what he does,” Wanda said softly, “I am sure we will soon hear from him and he will tell us that he is alright.”

“Will he though? The whole world will look for him now and it’s not exactly like he is the most inconspicuous person in the world,” Peter said dejectedly. “We should go out there and see if we can help him. If you give me enough time I am sure that I can find him.”

Wanda smiled at Peter after that. “Well then we know what we have to do. I make sure Vision doesn’t suspect a thing and you go in your lab to search for Steve. And once you have found him we are out of here,” she explained confidently.

Nodding, Peter stood up and walked to the door, but stopped before he opened it. “Make sure Vision doesn’t know I’m in the lab. Just say that I want to be alone for a while. I will sneak out after you,” Peter proposed and Wanda agreed.

She stepped by Peter and made her way to the living room, where Vision still watched the news. A few seconds after Wanda, Peter left their room and quietly tiptoed to his lab. He was sure that Vision didn’t hear him, after all Peter nearly didn’t hear himself and he had enhanced hearing. Once he was in the lab and quietly closed the door, he started up one of the computers and began his search for Steve. Peter only knew that his starting point was Berlin and that Sam and the Winter Soldier most likely accompanied him. He watched the publically available videos from the helicopter crash and decided to go from there. It seems like no bodies were found in the wrack, which meant that everybody in the helicopter survived the crash.

It took Peter far longer than he would have liked to get the surveillance videos from any cameras near the crash site, but he was no Tony, despite all the training he received from the billionaire during the past few months. However, he did not find anything useful on the videos. Dejected, Peter had to return to square one. He watched the available videos of the helicopter crash again, in the hope that he missed something the first time around.

After what felt like hours, during which the only thing Peter determined for sure was that Steve and his allies were still in Germany, he had to take a break. He was just about to walk out of his lab when he heard a loud sound coming from upstairs. Peter rushed to the source of the sound and, to his enormous surprise, found Clint talking with Wanda.

“Ah finally, the other part of you two decides to join us,” the technically retired former member of the Avengers said.

“What in the world are you doing here?” Peter managed to ask after a few short moments.

“Getting the two of you out of here. Now come on, get what you need and let’s bail. I don’t think Vision will be fooled for long by my diversion,” Clint explained in a hurried tone.
