Just like that, two weeks have passed. Luckily, her second meeting with Dr. Novak wasn't that bad. And somehow, Kenna was able to come up with some excuses to change up the meeting days. So now she only has to visit Dr. Novak once every three weeks. She tried to argue it to a month but Dr. Novak was a hard to convince person. Plus she was already mad about the three weeks. It was the best Kenna could've got.
Maybe she was expected to give lots of information to Dr. Novak. But she didn't. She didn't know why. But as unconvincing as it may be, she was quite a good liar. She only told Dr. Novak that Faye still didn't talk to her, even though that only angered Dr. Novak more she was glad she said those things.
Her knuckles and palm had healed quickly, thanks to the cream Ms. Edmund gave her each day. After she was able to return to working, Faye joined her. No longer keeping herself away. She joined in on everything, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The gawking stopped after people started to get used to her existence. No more complaints about her ever came out again. Kenna didn't know if it was because Faye started to help work again, or if it's the fact that people like to obey to physical beauty.
Kenna had started to take her pills twice a day. It could be dangerous. It could be safe. But she didn't really care at this point. She only wanted to keep down her emotions, because for some reason; staying here has made her emotions scatter almost everywhere. She feels too sad sometimes, too mad sometimes, but never was she really happy. It felt like she could explode, she wonders how Faye does it so well. Does Faye even take her pill? She remembered in Skyler's journal, she said how they had both stopped taking it. But that was before Skyler died...is she still not taking it? How does she keep hold of herself so well then? She hides it so well, never revealing her thoughts up on her face.
There was some sort of special event tonight. Like some kind of party for dinner. Kenna has never been to a special event before, not to mention a party.
She stood in front of the long mirror that reflected her. Staring and observing herself, she's never paid much attention to how she looked. Ms. Edmund had let them off early from work to prepare themselves for the party. Kenna took her time to wash her hair and combed it out neatly. Her dark brown hair, split in the center, was a little over her shoulder length, straight as a stick, not even her baby hair had curls. She gazed off into her eyes, for the first time seeing that it is green, she had always thought it to be really pale blue or something. Realizing how she really looked, she always thought she looked more stubborn. But maybe it's because how time has changed, with everything that has happened, her resting face looked more serious than stubborn and innocent like she thought it had. Her cheeks were pinkish but her skin tone was pale, since she never really spent much of her life outside. But recently it looked a little darker, the work outside under the sun had done so. She turned around, with her self heating white jacket on. She zipped it and unzipped it, seeing which way looked better. She looked plain and random. No matter how much she tried to look special in that plain jacket and pants.
She shook her head and turned away from the mirror. Why is she even worrying about this? It's just a random event, she doesn't have to look special or anything.
A knock came from the door. Startled, she jumped up suddenly and quickly rushed to get it.
Faye stood in front of it, her hair done in that same style she has always been wearing. Kenna wondered how she had the time to do it everyday and how did she even get it done without any help; but the look was so natural on her. She wore her plain white t-shirt with her self heating jacket tied to her waist. A blank expression laid on her face.
Over the last two weeks, Kenna had tried to get closer to Faye. But it seemed like the more she tried, the more Faye didn't want to be near her. Maybe Faye just really hates her, Kenna doesn't understand why Dr. Novak had picked her for this deal in the first place. Maybe anyone but her, could somehow please Faye. She was so much nicer to everyone else, a smile of joy on her face when she greeted others. But just why exactly does she hate Kenna so much? It felt frustrating, and Kenna felt more paranoid than ever.
