There was a murmur of hushed voices among the room Jess and Kenna and the other two ladies had entered into. The door is left wide open.
Annika hid behind the corner near the wall that's close to the door but also where they can't see her. She isn't nervous. And her mind felt completely clear. Never has she felt so sharp tuned like this.
There's a sudden scream, a scream of agony. She peeks against the wall and sees Kenna, flopped down on her belly on an operating table. Her dress is cut open at the back of the waist, pale bloody skin revealed. Annika now sees the shot wound, the blood smeared over the other parts of her skin was gone now and she saw the shot wound clearly. It's small, but it looked bad. She wondered how deep the bullet had gone through.
The white coat lady with black hair had run her gloved hands over the shot wound, now she quickly backs away from Kenna's scream of torment.
She says something to Jess and Jess says something back.
Annika backs away from the door and takes a deep breath. For some reason, the sight of Kenna suffering like that made her ache inside a little. She shakes the thought away because she's the reason why her brother is dead, she's the one who had betrayed all of them first, she's the one who should be dead. Not her brother. And now Annika will finally give Kenna what she deserves. Death.
She knew she couldn't kill Kenna with everyone in there hovering around her. She had to wait. And though anger and fury were burning in her, building higher and higher each second, she still had patience. And if taking Kenna's life away meant waiting, she will.
After half an hour, something under her feet shifted. She thought it must've been an earthquake, although she wasn't sure because she's never experienced one before. There was a loud machinery sound, she held onto the wall to keep her feet steady as the floor she stood under wobbled.
This happened—the floor unbalancing and shaking—for a few more minutes until it was still again. But not completely still, the ground felt a little floaty, and the machinery sound of what sounded like fans or some sort still sounded.
After a few more minutes, her ears felt heavy like they were going to pop.
And here was her guess: the hover ship is in the air. They're flying. They're...leaving Ordinaire?
The thought made her uncomfortable. She has never even seen the world outside of their city, and now she's leaving it and going somewhere else? She doesn't even know the people aboard this ship, and she still has no exact clue who Jess is and what has happened. Like why were she and forty other people paralyzed in beds? And how about that explosion that happened out of nowhere?
Even though all these things worried her, she pushed them out of her head.
She peeked in the room again, and Jess and the two ladies were in rubber gloves and masks, sharp tools in hands and blood on those gloves where—
She pulled herself away before she had to look more at the fresh bullet wound on Kenna.
She took a deep breath, sharpened her mind once again, and stood behind the wall. She has to wait for them to all leave, and then it'll be time.
She slid down on the wall and sat. She has waited for at least three hours now and when her legs could no longer bear her weight, she finally gives in and sits down.
She plays with her loose black hair that would usually be in a ponytail. It's long and straight. And oily. When was the last time she even showered?
Random thoughts crossed her mind over and over again as she waited. But even as time slid by so slowly, the anger and rage in her didn't calm. Hatred. She was full of that. When she thought about it, her begging Gibson to not go in there, him going anyway, for them, for Kenna. She wanted to feel the blood upon her hands, to feel Kenna's blood dripping all over her. Or maybe not. Or maybe she can choke her to death. There are so many ways to kill any living creature, which one should it be to finally end the girl who got her brother dead?
