Once again, Kenna sat in front of Dr. Novak. The same depressing grey room with its awful sharpness of a smell. She fidgeted her fingers nervously on the metal table, the only space and barrier between her and the monster that lays in front of her face.
She tried to look careless, but the icy look in Dr. Novak's eyes made everything seem impossible. Well no, the possibility of her getting eaten alive was highly at stake.
"So tell me about it. How's the deal going?" Her voice pitched in that medium tone, but it could've sounded darker and deeper.
"You tell me. You made it happen after all."
"Haha, I really do love your sense of humor, Kenna. Except now is not the time or place for it." She shifts her chair closer and her faint smile darkens then fades.
Instead of shifting away, Kenna pulls her own chair closer. For some reason, she felt a little stronger than usual today.
"I know what you mean. You want to know about what I've gathered on Faye." Kenna managed a smirk.
Dr. Novak relaxes her back against her chair. "I see you're a little different on this visit today."
"I want to see Lina."
"Why do you think I'd let you?"
"Do you want the information or not?"
"You do know that you can't threaten me. I could just kill her right now...and you'd come begging on your knees again." She grinned, revealing her white polished teeth.
Kenna felt her fist tighten. Calm down, this is just how Dr. Novak is.
"But...I guess a friend reunion would be nice to watch, since I'm in a good mood after all."
Gritting her teeth tight, she let out a breath. "Good then, I'll tell you what I know."
For a moment, Dr. Novak stared at her weirdly. Kenna usually resisted a little more, but today she didn't. Maybe that was what made it suspicious. Although even as Kenna said that, there were long moments of silence as Dr. Novak waited for her to talk.
"So are you going to start?" She twisted a scary look at Kenna.
Taking in a deep breath, she closed her eyes for a moment so she won't have to see the sharp grey eyes in front of her. "She's scared." And that was all she managed.
"What?" An annoyed expression slowly started to form on Dr. Novak's face.
"She's scared. She's scared about people dying because of her." Kenna remembered the lonely look in Faye's eyes. That night when she leaned in to kiss her, right before that. Her words, 'But even after that I was scared, scared of more people dying because of my choices.' And later that night when Kenna promised her that...she felt the same. Does she though? What is she even doing anymore? Right now, she sits in front of Dr. Novak. Telling her things about Faye, while she told Faye that she liked her.
"Will you elaborate more on that?" Her grey eyes, sharp and focused.
"She...she said." Kenna stops, and what she says next surprises herself too. "Is she really bad? Why are you gathering information on her? What did she ever do? W-why did you pick me to do this out of everyone else in this world? And why are you targeting her? What did she ever do to you? Why are the others who are infected dead but she isn't?" She almost gasps a little as she managed to stop herself.
Dr. Novak rolls her eyes, her arms crossed across her chest. Kenna could tell immediately that she was not having it.
She snorts. "What is it with you people that come here? Always so many questions." She rolled her eyes. "Can't you all just do what you're told and ask nothing? It's none of your business anyways. One good advice from me," she leans closer into the table. "The less you know, the easier things will go. And the more you know..." She shakes her head, half smiling. "The more you'll regret later." Her voice ending in a hiss.
