*Same day late evening*

Adhir took Ahalya to his mansion. Ryan had to clear the mess in his hospital. The whole car ride was silent. Adhir showed her room, adjacent to his. She turned back to ask “Don’t have anything to ask.?” He smiled lowering his head. “A lot to but not now. I know you need time to talk. Why don’t you share the room with me?” He asked leaning against the door frame.

“After all this, seeing me kill people, how can you still flirt with me?” she asked stepping forward. He kept his foot back in coordination. “You-” He couldn’t talk because of the decreasing distance. “huusssshhhhhh!” she kept her finger on his lips. “good night.” She slammed the door on him till he could process what had happened; he was standing alone.

Ahalya’s POV

I closed the door. Leaning on to it, I sat on the floor to process. I killed the assassin who was the killer of our only family – Christopher. But is this it? Will I be able to live peacefully, after seeking revenge? I have no answers. Blood is not something new to me, and neither is death. But something which I have the answer for is….. This is not the end. They’ll chase Adhir and me, and I can’t let that happen. I lay on the bed thinking about what to do next, drifting into a deep sleep.

Adhir’s POV

I was in my deep thoughts when I heard a knock on my door. It’s Sid. “Are you ok?” He asked standing near the door. I signalled him to come inside and sit beside me. “I don't think I am, Sid. The Vipers won't stay quiet. Right now, my only focus is protecting her.” I expressed my thoughts.

He chuckled. “You think she needs a man to protect her? After clearly witnessing her capabilities. She is a tigress, Adhir. I don’t know much about her, but from what I know, she is a nightmare dressed like a daydream. A beautiful, pretty rose with dangerous and sharp thorns.” He said, putting a hand on his shoulder, giving courage to handle the new challenges.

“Let’s see, what she has to say. But I have a feeling that her deepest wounds made her tough exterior.” I sighed. “Take rest. We have so much to do in the morning.” I said walking into my closet. “Good night.” He said, closing the door. Rested my head on the bed’s headrest. Closing my eyes to sleep but a vivid image kept playing – The way she handled guns, the swag, the style, that was quite impressive.

*Glass break sound* I got up to check. It came from her room. I rushed into her room, but she didn’t lock it. The shattered glass pieces near the bedside table signify that there’s no break-in, but it’s her own hand that makes the glass break. I noticed she was struggling in her sleep. I went near to calm her. She jolted up from sleep which retreated my steps, sweat drops dripping from her forehead. Seems like a nightmare woke her up.

“Sweetheart, are you ok?” I asked out of concern. Trying to go near her. She wiped her forehead, saying, “Yeah. I’m ok, just a nightmare. Why are you here?” she said, trying to get down. “Stop!! The glass is shattered; that sound woke me up. Are you sure, you are ok?” “I am, Adhir. Relax, I’m habituated to have these nightmares.” She sat back. I called a maid to clean the mess. “I’ll be there till you fall asleep.” I declared sitting on the chair near the glass window.

She looked with a straight face. “You think it’s a romance novel? I just had a nightmare. It'll take time to process. I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight.” She slept peacefully in just 15 minutes. I don’t sometimes understand how this baby ended up being so tough. I pecked her forehead, she held my hand. “Stop being a pervert, Adhir; let me sleep. Get out!” she said in a sleepy tone.

I smiled at her cute figure. “Good night, sweetheart.” She hummed in response. I came back to sleep peacefully after so many years. It’s solely because of her.

*The next morning*

I did my morning routine, and a workout is part of it. Sid always joined for workouts. While walking to the gym, I noticed the helpers gasping. Something was up without my knowledge. Curiosity crept in, prompting me to see what had taken them by surprise. My eyes went wide. I gasped in shock and froze at the moment. Sid walked in, saying, “What happened? Why are you so surprised?” I covered his eyes.

He moved my hand, saying, “What’s wrong, Adhir.” after looking at the scene, he closed his eyes again with my hand. Turning around, “I’ll clear people.” “Could you please do that?” I said gulping the sight. “When did you become a pervert? Stop eating her with your eyes Adhir.” Sid low-key whispered. “Shut up and clear the area…! Leave us alone.” I said without even blinking.

Ahalya was working out. It was fine until that moment; she was wearing the sexiest outfit and doing yoga on the lawn. “Hey, daredevil, I didn’t expect you to do yoga and looking this sexy is a crime, sweetheart,” I said, going near her in a flirty tone.

She slid on a T-shirt, covering her shiny, sweaty body

She slid on a T-shirt, covering her shiny, sweaty body. “I know, right? But it’s been so many days that I have done a workout.” She said gulping water. Her confidence put a smile on my lips. “How about some workout with me? Martial arts?” I asked knowing she’ll not reject. “Fine, but it's been years, so be gentle on me.” She said warming up.

We began practising our fight, moving in coordination, evading each other’s attacks, and refusing to break eye contact. The force of our moving hands pushed the air away, creating a vacuum around us. She proved to be a dominant fighter, leaving no opportunity for a counter-attack. Soon, I gave up.

She got the power. Her every move was calculative; every strike was precise. I turned and pinned her to the floor when she held me to the floor. I refused to accept defeat. She didn’t break the eye contact, but instead, she slid her hand to take out a small pocket knife. In an instant, I moved back. She began to show her skills. I defended holding the hand many times. She moved her hand aiming directly into my eyes.

I held her grip, saying, “Fine, I accept defeat. I didn’t know you were completely a left-hander.” I asked, taping my sweat with a towel. “I’m not. I’m an ambidextrous, just trained my left hand.” She replied. “Let’s talk after freshening up. I don’t want to keep things only to me.” She said moving out of the space. I’m curious to know her. How she ended up here with me? Whatever the reason is, I’m just thankful for it.
