The Death of War

Chapter 28

Jace and Daemon talk about Aemond and some of Rhaenyra's decisions. Rhaenyra, Daemon and Aemond come up with a plan to attack Kings Landing. I hope you guys like it. 🥰

Jace was furious, his uncle, the man who killed his brother was in Dragonstone and he was not a prisoner. His mother was allowing him to walk around like he was the lord of the castle. Jace had not found out about Aemond's arrival until early that morning, he heard Daemon had returned, but no one had mentioned his uncle. He could not help but feel betrayed and asked himself why his mother would allow a killer to roam free.

"Whatever you are thinking of doing, I would advise you not to." He looked up at Daemon. "I do not like Aemond anymore than you do, but he has been helping us. He is the reason we won the battle in the Riverlands, and why we have Aegon in our power."

"Is that why my mother has allowed him to be here without punishment?" He felt hurt. "She does not care that the man killed her son as long as he helps her get the throne?"

"It is not like that." Daemon's look was apologetic, but Jace knew he would defend Rhaenyra from everyone, even her own son. "You have no idea what has happened, the things we have seen. This is the best outcome, believe me."

He did not want to trust Daemon, he wanted his mother to kill his uncle so they could avenge Luke's death. He did not understand why his mother had only grieved for a couple of days before almost forgetting that her son had been killed. He was not sure what had happened, his mother had been heartbroken, one moment she had been grieving and the next she had made decisions that had turned all their lives upside down. Now he had to share his home with a killer and he could not even protest because none of this belonged to him.

"I know what happened while I was gone." Jace gave Daemon a curious look. "About Ser Arryk trying to abduct Visenya and almost killing her, how your mother almost exchanged herself for the both of you."

"Yes, I tried to stop it, but my mother is not someone who backs down when she has made a decision." Daemon nodded. "Your daughter is now bonded to the Cannibal, that dragon is scary, but he is like a large kitten in Visenya's hands."

"My daughter is a force to be reckoned with." Daemon let out a laugh and shook his head. "I knew whichever dragon she bonded with would be impressive, I just did not realize that she would bond to one so young."

"What will happen?" Daemon gave him a questioning look. "Once the war is over and my mother has taken the throne, what will happen then?"

"Then she will rule, and we will be by her side to help her." Daemon must have seen something on his face. "Unless that is not what you want. Your mother is aware that you might resent her for declaring you a bastard and she is not going to force you to stay if you do not wish to."

"Are you sure about that?" His mother seemed to be the only one who could make decisions about all their lives. "Because she has kept me here while everyone else fights."

"She is trying to protect you Jace, she wants you to be safe." He had been hearing that a lot for the past few moons. "She also does not want you to feel obligated to fight for her. If you insist on fighting she will allow it, but she does not want you to feel like you have to fight for her, especially after everything she took from you."

He knew that already, he heard about when one of the lords had wanted to send him to the Riverlands and his mother had immediately shut the idea down. He needed to speak to his mother, he needed to know what had happened to make her welcome Aemond into their home.
