Chapter 31

Rhaenyra tells Daemon about what happened with Baela and Rhaenys and gives him other news. Daemon is pissed at Rhaenys and gives her some news she wasn't expecting. I hope you guys like it 🥰

"What happened between you and Baela?" Rhaenyra looked up at her husband and gave him a questioning look. "I know something happened, my daughter has barely looked at you and you disinvited Rhaenys from supper."

"Rhaenys and Baela came to speak to me yesterday, they had a request, well Baela was the one who made the request, with Rhaenys's support." Daemon sat down, a curious look on his face. "Baela asked me to end her betrothal to Jace."

"What?" Daemon frowned, not looking happy. "What do you mean she asked for her betrothal to be broken? She knows that is up to me, I am the only one who can ask for her betrothal to be broken, not her and not Rhaenys."

"I know that, I asked her if she had spoken to you and she said that she had not told you, but you would not mind because you wanted her to be happy and you did not want her to wed someone who is beneath her."

"What the fuck does that mean?" Daemon gave her an annoyed look. "Baela has never cared about any of that shit, and she knows I am the one who decides who she can and cannot wed."

"Well, it does not matter now." Rhaenyra shrugged, she was done thinking about Baela, Rhaenys, and their prejudices. "I accepted their request and broke their engagement."

"What?" Daemon glared at her. "Why would you do that?"

"Because I will not force my son to marry a woman who sees him as less and will resent him." Rhaenyra was upset that the issue with Baela was now causing issues with her husband. Everything had been great with her and Daemon, they were finally seeing eye to eye in everything, and now this. "My son deserves to be happy, I have already taken everything from him, including his name and I will be damned if I give him a wife who does not see how much he is worth."

She stood up, upset that after everything they had gone through they were in this position again. She did not want to be fighting with her husband, she did not want to be fighting with her stepdaughter, and she did not want for things to be so wrong when they were only a few days away from her coronation. Rhaenyra had several announcements that she would make during her coronation ceremony, and she did not want to be fighting with her husband when she did.

"Rhaenyra, I will speak with Baela and explain things to her." He stood up and moved closer to her. "You know all of that talk about Jace being beneath her is not her, she was just repeating Rhaenys's words."

"I do not care, Daemon." And she did not, she was not going to go back on her decision. "If she is only repeating what Rhaenys said, then it shows how easily manipulated she can be. Baela grew up with Jace, she has known him for so many years and she still said those things about him. I do not want her as his wife and to be honest, at this point in time I do not want her anywhere near Jace or Joffrey."

"She is my daughter."

"Yes, I am aware of that," Rhaenyra said as she turned to face her husband. "And that is the only reason why I did not tell her to return to Driftmark and stay there." Rhaenyra looked at her husband for a moment and decided this was the best time to tell him about some things she had been thinking about. "You are aware Baela and Rhaena's children will not have dragons?"

"Why not?" Daemon's glare would have been scary had she been anyone else. "They are my daughters and they have a right to their heritage."

"Actually, they do not." Rhaenyra crossed her arms over her chest. "No one, but the monarchs's children, those in direct line to the throne are allowed to have dragons. The only reason why Jace and Joffrey have one is because they bonded with their dragons before they were declared bastards and now that they are bonded their dragons cannot be taken away. Same for Baela, she is allowed to have her dragon because she is already bonded to it."
