Finally getting to stay home & starting to feel better

The next morning, Grandma Rosiepuff woke the boys up, telling them to be quiet so John could sleep. The boys quietly got ready for school, every so often one of them looking at John. He was flushed and pale, dark bags under his eyes, grandma had taken off his goggles and replaced them with a wet washcloth. Grandma Rosiepuff took the boys to school, giving them quick goodbyes so she could return home to John Dory. When she arrived back at the pod she went to check on John but found his bed empty. Panicking slightly, she searched the pod. Not in the bathroom, not in the living room, not in her room, not in their bedroom, finally she found him in the kitchen making himself some toast. “John! You gave me a heart attack sweetie. I could have made that for you." Grandma Rosiepuff said as she walked over to him, checking his temperature with her hand. It was still high, John didn't say anything, just leaned into her touch. JD got his toast and she got his blankets and pillow from his bed, putting him on the couch so he'd be closer to the bathroom and close enough for her to check on him. After eating his toast, John turned on the TV, not really paying attention to it but enjoying the background noise. Grandma Rosiepuff figured it was time to get some medicine in him, going and grabbing it from the bathroom. “John, I know you won't like this but I need to give you some medicine to help make you feel better, ok?” Grandma Rosiepuff said as she poured the children's cold and flu medicine onto a spoon. John Dory sighed, his face showing discomfort but opened his mouth for the medicine. Rosiepuff tried not to laugh but the faces her grandsons made when taking the medicine were adorably funny. JD made a disgusted face, scrunching up his nose and pursuing his lips before sticking his tongue out, hoping to get the taste out of his mouth. After giving John his medicine, grandma Rosiepuff gave him a kiss on the forehead before heading to the kitchen to do the dishes. After a few hours, Grandma Rosiepuff went to check on JD. He had fallen asleep with the remote still in his hand. She chuckled quietly to herself before taking the remote and tucking the blanket in around him. It was times like this that reminded her that no matter how grown up he acted, John Dory was still a child. The rest of the day was pretty uneventful, she made them lunch and gave John more medicine, he mostly just slept or watched TV. He was asleep when she went to get the other boys, telling them to be quiet when they got home because JD was sleeping in the living room. They got home, kicking off their shoes like they always did before starting on their homework, little Branch crawling his way over to John Dory. Branch placed his little hand on his brother's face, trying to provide comfort. John didn't wake up so Branch climbed up on the couch, snuggling into JD's chest. Instinctively John Dory wrapped his arms around Branch, unaware that it was the baby who had crawled up there with him. After finishing their homework, the boys took to quietly watching TV or playing. Floyd looked for Branch, panicking slightly when he couldn't find the baby. “Spruce, I can't find Branch." Floyd said, worried that something might have happened to him. “I'll help you look for him." Spruce said as he got up. They looked for about ten minutes before they realized little Branch had crawled up on the couch to cuddle their big brother. “Aw, he's comforting John.” Floyd said, enjoying the cute scene. " Yeah it's cute but we don't want Branch catching what John has.” Spruce said before pulling Branch out of JD's arms. Upon realizing he had been taken out of his brother's arms, Branch started crying loudly, waking up John Dory. " Huh? What's going on?” JD said as he rubbed his eyes. " Well Branch had crawled up in your lap but I don't think we want him catching whatever you have so I picked him up and he started crying.” Spruce said, trying to calm the baby by bouncing him. “What's going on out here?" Their grandma said as she came into the living room, wiping her hands on an apron. “Branch wants John but John's sick." Clay said, covering his ears to try to ignore the crying. “Well give him to John. Sometimes you just have to let these things happen. It's just a nasty cold, Branch will be fine if he catches it.” Grandma Rosiepuff said as she took the baby, handing him back to John Dory who was confused on why the baby was persistent on being close to him. Branch instantly cuddled up to JD once back in his lap, John absentmindedly rubbing his back. John laid back down, placing Branch on his chest. Branch sighed contently, happy to be with his brother. JD dozed on and off the rest of the evening, only staying awake long enough to eat some soup for dinner. Later in the evening, grandma sent each of the boys to the bathroom for showers while she bathed Branch in the kitchen sink. Once the younger boys were bathed, Grandma Rosiepuff told John to get into the shower. “Aw, but why grandma? I don’t think I'll be better for a little while.” John Dory whined a little. “I don’t care if you’re sick or not, you’re not going to sit around my pod being stinky. Now go get a shower, it might make you feel even better.” Grandma Rosiepuff said sternly, pointing at the bathroom door with Branch on her hip. JD groaned as he got up to get in the shower, coughing a little after a moment. “Spruce?” “Yes Floyd?” “Why would a shower make John feel better?” “Hmmm, probably because the steam can clear sinuses, the hot water can relax muscles, and it can feel good to be clean especially when you’ve been getting sweat, snot, and maybe puke on yourself.” Floyd and Spruce talked while John Dory was in the shower. Spruce was correct (there were few times he wasn’t), soon John could breath through his nose, his muscles felt better, and washing the sweat and snot off himself felt good too. After showering, JD went up to their room to get dressed, catching a peek of himself in the mirror, he looked sick but that was to be expected. John stepped closer to the mirror, examining his face, noticing he had very faint stress line in his face. John Dory sighed before getting dressed, putting on fresh pajamas and deciding to head to bed early. All the boys got dressed and soon also went to bed, their slumber being filled with sweet dreams.

John woke up to their alarm clock, shutting it off before getting up to wake his brother up. He still didn’t feel a hundred percent but much better than he had the past few days. John Dory woke up Floyd and Spruce, asking Spruce to wake up Clay. While Spruce woke up Clay, John went into the bathroom, brushing his teeth while brushing Floyd’s hair. Branch babbled at John and Floyd, happy to see John Dory feeling better. Spruce and Clay went into the bathroom as the other three were walking out, going back to their room so Floyd and Branch could get dressed. JD played Branch while Floyd got dressed, Branch giggling and enjoying his brother’s company. After getting dressed the boys went downstairs for breakfast, John actually eating a good portion of his breakfast. “Seems like someone is feeling better.” Grandma Rosiepuff said as she cleared the breakfast plates. John nodded, “Yeah but I still don't feel completely better.”. Grandma Rosiepuff felt his forehead, noting that it was still pretty warm. Grandma Rosiepuff took the younger boys to school, quickly coming home to give John some medicine. JD made that adorable disgusted face again, the medicine still tasting bad. John felt good enough to work on their music and his homework. He tried to help Grandma clean up a little but she just shooed him off, telling John Dory that he should still be resting. John sighed but sat down, turning on the tv. Soon John had dozed off with the TV on, Grandma Rosiepuff came over and covered him up before turning the TV off. Soon the younger boys got home, it was a calm evening, none of them wanting to bother John too much. Branch still wanting John’s attention, sitting in his lap as they watched TV, Branch mocking JD’s face. Spruce bit back a laugh, nudging Clay and motioning in the direction of John and Branch. Clay hid behind his book to avoid laughing aloud, watching as Branch would look up at JD before changing his face to match. “Aw Branch, are you trying to be a mini John Dory?” Floyd said jokingly, noticing what the baby was doing. Branch giggled and clapped his hands. “Oh you’re mocking me now, huh?” John said, turning to tickle the baby Branch. Branch turned and looked at John Dory before exclaiming “Ohn! Ohn!” (it's John but let's just say js are hard for a baby). They were all shocked, Branch had said John’s name, well kind of. “Yes Branch, that's John! Good job!” Floyd exclaimed as John tossed Branch in the air a little. JD loved when his little brothers learned a new word, especially when it was his name. “Can you Clay, Branch? Go on, say Clay” Clay asked, leaning near Branch’s face. Branch gave him a confused look, Clay pouted, a little upset that Branch wouldn’t say his name. After a while of them trying to get Branch to say the other brothers’ names, it was time to go to bed. JD went to sleep easily, feeling much better, almost hoping to be able to go to school tomorrow. The next day, John’s fever was gone and he was allowed to go to school. And that's the time that John Dory got sick.
