Chap summary: Shota's overworked and drained leading to his mind dragging him back to his first year of working at UA.
Note: This is the only quirk inspired by outside sources. Copy Quirk: Bond, was mostly inspired by Monoma's but the details were from 'Accidental Bonding' on AO3.
And y'all will never understand how much I enjoyed analyzing Elements when I was writing the quirk analysis (yes I have a quirk analysis notebook).
Shota gets to the school so late that it can't be considered early. He didn't even have the time to go home and change into his hero costume— let alone shower—before he got to the school. He was still in his suit, makeup having been properly washed off and replaced with a simpler layer of foundation over the old scar his uncle had been kind enough to grant him.
He's in all black, having just returned from Inko's funeral after telling Izuku and Katsuki to fuck off and get some rest. They'll likely be back after school for the quirk thing but he made sure to make it clear he didn't want to see their faces anywhere near here until then.
It's 7:58 when he gets there, his breathing uneven but not panting or sweating thanks to the car's AC (maybe also because of his inability to sweat as most underground heroes would say about him). He's on a phone call as he walks into the administration to sign in.
Sadly, life hates him and half the staff is there, discussing his disappearance. He sighs as he picks up the pen, writing his name and the time on the paper.
"Afterwards, have them all sent to the Association's doctors, it'll cut some of the costs. And make sure to bring the drugs down to the lab. We might be able to cure them into medicine." He says into the phone. "Bye, see you later."
He looked around at the staff members staring at him when the automated school bell rang.
"I have a class to get to." He states blankly when his phone rings again.
"The fuck is it now?" He greets sharply. "What do you mean they aren't there?"
He's not yelling, but he sure is fucking close as he's walking toward his class. He opens the door, listening to the explanations being given to him, finding Yokami taking attendance.
"Yes, I tracked down the comunicators' satellite signals. How the fuck else would I find the locations?!" All eyes were on him, most wide with shock.
"Fucking— yes, I'm at the school now. I'm fine. No, I didn't get injured." His voice lowered as he crossed the room to sit at his desk, holding the phone with his shoulder as he set up his desk. "Alright. M'kay. Bye." He whispers the farewell under his breath so low he wonders if the phone even caught onto it.
But he doesn't have time to dwell on that before he has to dive into work. He offered a nod to Yokami, signaling the man could leave, but he lingered, watching Shota organize his desk.
The door opened, and Nemuri stepped in, about to make her dramatic entrance when she saw Shota. "Aizawa," She calls out his name, but Shota doesn't answer. Instead, he flipped his pen to click it against the desk and then flipped it back to begin writing. "Where have you been?"
"Shota," she calls, breaking his trance.
He looks up, giving her an attentive hum as his wide gray eyes stare into hers. Yokami took a step away from the podium, giving her space to walk closer. "Where were you? You normally come back Sunday afternoon or around 6 a.m. yet you only showed up two minutes before school."
His wide, gray eyes narrowed exponentially and his expression tightened. "Tell Nezu I was preoccupied." He turns back to his work as if she had never spoken, the pace at which he began writing indicating that the work would be illegible.
