Another random chap summary: Shota explains the origins of his quirks and Izuku learns a bit more than that about his adoptive father.
"No shit Sherlock." Is the first reaction he is graced with from the lord explosion murderer god himself.
Shota lets out a muffled laugh, his small frame shaking. His laugh is genuine yet his eye twitches slightly a couple of times.
"How's that possible?" Hitoshi asks, not incredulous but rather curious.
Shota swallows. "Uhm—" Slowly but surely, Shota recites the same information he had given Izuku and Hitoshi on his family history. It was clearer now considering he'd explained it before. It was mostly for Kaminari, knowing Katsuki had already read through the flash drive.
"Yeah, we know that fucked up shit," Katsuki says with narrow eyes. "They were all trained to be heroes or something, right?"
Shota nods. "Despite the corruption that has spread throughout our bloodline, the training is still traditionally practiced and adapted to fit into the needs of the kids receiving them." He cringed. "Or the kids are adapted to fit the regular version."
"Okay," Kaminari starts, his composure impressively strong. "I have a feeling we should further discuss all of that but what does this have to do with your multiple quirks."
"Sadly, hero and villain societies tend to be built off of the power and strength of your quirk. Also whether the discrimination of a weaker quirk sent you one way, the other, or just settle down."
He breathes through his nose. Damn he wishes Sonomi were here to help him, or at least to have a cigarette between his fingers. He can feel his veins growing tense and knows they're turning black by now if they haven't already.
"So, you wouldn't be surprised if I said that my family gave values based on quirks. Mainly, anyhow." He rolls his eyes to disperse the tears. "My siblings, older sister, and brother, had perfect genetic mixes of our parent's quirks. But while they each have one enhanced sense, I have two."
"Didn't that even out the playing field?" Izuku asked softly.
He shook his head.
"Wait— you have enhanced senses?" Kaminari presses.
"Yeah, I have both hearing and smell, my sister has smell, and my brother has hearing." He recites. "Soundproofing doesn't do much if anything for me and my brother while my sister and I can smell emotions fairly well."
"Wow." Izuku writes down in a blank notebook, its plastic wrapping discarded beside him showing it was brand new. "Is this quirk related?"
"No. Our parents started fucking with our DNA when we were in the womb. In fact, my aunt— Yokami's mom— is always saying that they shouldn't discriminate against me for my quirk considering they had gone overboard before I was born and probably caused the damage themselves."
Katsuki's the first to break, his face contorting in disgust while Izuku pauses his writing. Hitoshi grips the fabric of his pants and Kaminari brings a hand up to pick at his lower lip.
"Quit that." Shota snaps at the blond who retracts his hand from his lips, a shameful look on his face. "You don't wanna look like Shigaraki do you?"
He shook his head, biting back a soft smile.
"What do you mean 'started'?" Katsuki asks.
Shota sighed. "El Project de Kosei." He swallowed, gathering his words. "El is Spanish for the. Project is English. It means project. De is a French and also Spanish word meaning of. And you all know Kosei means quirk."
