The girls sprawled out on a comfy couch in the living room, while I laid on the fluffy carpet. For the first time we were all not in a good head space, each dealing with our own issues, but I decided to switch off the spotlight that's been following me lately and be there for them.
We listened to April explain how her argument with Alex transpired. I understood why he was angry with her for dating Chris. I too was skeptical about their situationship, but I trusted her to make the right decision for her.
I supported whatever was going between them, but it doesn't mean I didn't understand Alex's view. Chris’ bad reputation was well known around our peers. However, However, April assured me that nothing was serious between them.
"What makes me so mad is that he doesn't believe I can protect myself, even from Chris," April said with a groan.
"Maybe—e—" She interrupted as I tried to explain. She interrupted as I tried to explain.
"And don't tell me he’she’s overprotective because I'm the only sister hehe has!" She pointed a finger at me.
Okay, she was right. Being the only girl among three boys meant all the the men in her family handled her with kid gloves and held her like an egg, afraid it might drop and break. All her life, her brothers and dad had a say in boys she dated and this made her rebel against them.
One time Alex scared a boy off off who was working on a school project with her even before he heard why he came to see April. After that, any time she had a school assignment with a boy she went to their houses to avoid her brothers bullying her project partners. As she got older she rebelled against them and dated boys she knew they wouldn't approve.
"Is your relationship with this Chris guy serious?" Soph asked, her eyebrows furrowed.
"He's so charming," A said with dreamy eyes. “But no, we’re just having fun.”
April has never been in a serious relationship, all her relationships were short term. At first I thought it had to do with her work and her overprotective brothers, but I think it has to do with a certain guy she ran from, afraid he would hurt her. The only man she had strong feelings for…
Aside from Aside from her fear of being hurt, I don't think father would approve due to the rivalry between their families.
"Do you think you could love him? I mean, if you two are in a sexual relationship, it can easily develop into something more." Soph prompted hesitantly.
Sighing heavily, April answered, "I wish I was capable of loving him or anyone for that matter."
We watched her as she walked to the kitchen, her usually loud self nowhere to be seen. Soph looked at me, eyes full of questions. One thing I loved about Sophie was that she was always fast to pick up topics that we weren't ready to venture into.
~~~~~~~~~~💔~~~~~~~~~~
Hours later we were nestled in between Sophie's blankets in her bedroom watching Bridgerton. This was my first time watching the series. Truth was I could never sit down for hours watching a series on my own, I easily got bored or thought of something I had been planning or doing.
"How I wish I could be Daphne right now, the Duke is so charming," I said after chewing popcorn.
"It's a pity he isn't part of season 2," Said Soph, getting up from the bed.
"What?! Then what's the point of watching season 2?" I asked, sinking deeper in bed.
April laughed,, shaking her head at me as she typed furiously on her phone. I was about to lean over her shoulder to see who she was chatting with when my phone vibrated with a text from Jake.
