True to my word I had sent my resignation letter to Beth the day that followed my outburst with Jake, instead of telling Beth the entire truth that led to my decision I only told her that my exams were coming up and I needed to focus on that.Beth had argued that she would give me two weeks off to focus on my studies, but I was adamant about leaving so she let me go. For the next couple of days, I focused on studying for the finals and spending time home this weekend for mum's birthday. I was thankful I didn't have any class tomorrow like the past Saturdays, I couldn't imagine being away from mum on her birthday.
"Ara, are you done?" Soph called out.
"Come in Soph,"
Opening the door she asked, "What's taking you so long?"
Before I could answer her she looked around my messy bed, full of clothes and accessories. We were going to some clubs tonight before going to mum's place and I couldn't decide on what to wear.
"You do know that we can go to a different club right?" Soph asked with a frown.
There was no way I was avoiding going to Red Stilettos because I feared bumping into Jake. We loved the atmosphere there, and maybe a small part of me wished to see him there. Who was I kidding, I missed him.
"Help me find something to wear please," I begged.
"How about this?" Sophie asked holding a red jumpsuit.
"I hate jumpsuit, imagine going to the loo only to find a long queue and by the time it's my turn to get in, I can't get out of that hideous outfit and can't hold it in anymore!"
Sophie laughed with a shake of her head, probably seeing the picture I just painted for her. "Why did you buy it then?" She questioned.
"It looked beautiful, but I wore it once and swore to never wear it again."
For the next minutes we looked through the outfits on my bed and I ended up deciding on black high waisted jeans and a strapless crop top, I paired the look with black loafers. I didn't feel like going out, but the girls convinced me this was what I needed.
Once we were ready to go, we locked the door behind us and took a cab to the club. This was going to cause a dent in my wallet, especially now that I was no longer working, but I didn't want to worry about money tonight. It could wait.
We took the train to the club and by the time we got there, April was already waiting for us. Red Stilettos was busy as usual, the dancefloor already filled with people and the bar crowded. "It took you a while to get here, I thought I was stood up for a minute there," April shouted over the loud music when we located her.
"I thought about it and couldn't leave you stranded in such an establishment," I replied giving her a hug before sitting down on the stool next to her.
Sophie did the same and a waiter approached us with drinks, making Soph and I gawk at April. Instead of answering us she took a sip of her cocktail and closed her eyes. I looked up ahead where I saw the waiter who had just served us drinks whispering something to none other than Cameron, who was sharing a look with April.
"I'm guessing you located your stilettos?" I grinned at my best friend.
I could bet on my life that she was blushing red right now, her only saving grace was the neon lights flashing in the club. Soph frowned, lost on my weird question and more so, April's behaviour.
"You could say so," came out April's soft reply.
"Back up. What just happened?" Soph questioned.
When Jake told me months ago why Cameron named this club 'Red Stilettos' I wasn't completely sure if the woman in the story was April. April never told me the name of the guy she loved years ago. All she had told me was that she took a bite of the forbidden fruit, and she ran out of his apartment leaving her stilettos as soon as she was sober.
