reaching heaven

some people have a hard time coming to grips with the fact that God's love can be felt at all times. thinking that it's only the big, noticeable ways like a pay raise, a birth, a graduation, or a breakthrough that constitute God's love and provision. while this is true, the small moments are what matter most— to me anyway.

i've heard some call them love notes from God, maybe even angel kisses. but to me, those are the moments when i experience a glimpse of heaven. almost as if heaven has taken the form of a bubble and when i reach to touch the bubble, i experience what's inside before it pops out of existence.

touching heaven.

so what are these moments like?

whatever makes you feel joy beyond this world— beyond your own understanding.

a hug from a stranger.

a sloppy kiss from a dog.

making a silly tik tok with a friend.

the soft tap, tap, tapping of rain on your window.

watching a beautiful butterfly land on flowers in the front yard.

giving someone a compliment and seeing the brightest smile in the world as a result.

these are the moments.

this is heaven.

even in the times when the whole world around you is burning, you find peace in a small painting, a quiet space in the park, or even in a room full of rambunctious toddlers.

touching heaven.

now, what happens when you can't seem to experience these moments?

either you're looking too hard, or you're not really living. such moments come by happenstance, you can't force it. you have to be aware, tune in to your surroundings— and listen, wait, watch, observe. it will come. and when it does, you'll get a giddy feeling that's contagious and will make you want to share it with others.

that's God.

He works silently and swiftly— never forceful, but gentle.

but if you still can't seem to find your bubbles of heaven, reach for it.

when i say reach, i mean do something to have someone else experience heaven.

write a small card.

send a quick text (or even call!)

give a kid some candy.

thank a veteran.

forgive someone.

it's the little things, not the big things.

if you have the gift of cooking/baking— make someone a treat.

if you have a way with words— speak life to people.

if you are creative— come up with something that will blow someone's mind (and your own, too!)

if you prefer to work behind the scenes, give the waiter a bigger tip.

if you are compassionate, pay for someone's meal or gas.

it's the little things.

believe it or not, when you show grace, love, and mercy to others not only do they experience heaven, but you do too. because at that point you are no longer focusing on yourself, but others, and that brings a whole lot more love to you than you would think.

just try it, and if it works, write it down on your phone. remind yourself of all the bubbles of heaven you touch each day. and when you feel low, go back and read what you wrote— it'll change your perspective.

reach heaven.

touch heaven.

experience heaven.

when are some times you have touched heaven? comment below! i would love to hear :)
