"'Remember that whole ordeal with Dr. Merlot?'" The note asked. The groans indicated yes. "'Well, that wasn't part of the RWBY show. Those events were chronicled in a video game, and yes Ruby you have a video game.'" Ruby started getting excited. "'You have four, actually, though the two that were mobile games were shut down and YES I'M STILL BITTER.'" Huh, that was an...extreme reaction. "'ANYWAYS, during the end credits of the game, Grimm Eclipse, this song, Lusus Naturae (which by the way roughly translates to "freak of nature"), played, from the demented perspective of Dr. Merlot.'"
"'Now, the song WAS released officially as part of the Volume 4 Soundtrack...but it doesn't fit the OG context. In fact, Dr. Merlot hasn't shown up in the show itself. You, uh...sure he didn't die?'" And truthfully, they weren't. "'People unaware of the game tend to get confused about the song, & more importantly...I figured for the sake of chronology, as well as to provide a...maybe sorta break between Sacrifice & the next one, you could rip apart a mad scientist's ramblings. ALSO, it's really good. Criminally underrated The choice is yours, though. If you choose to stay on the soundtrack order, it'll be shuffled back to Volume 4."
Indeed, the API showed two options for this one: "Play Now" or "Skip to Volume 3." It was a difficult decision with potentially far reaching consequences one that Ruby knew she couldn't come to alone.
"So, uh, what do we think?" Ruby asked.
Weiss groaned. "Best to just get it out of the way now."
"Indeed." Ozpin agreed. "And given that Dr. Merlot apparently isn't a factor in the show itself, it may prove less distracting once we reach Volume 4."
"Also it could be fun." Nora offered. "The note said so, after all."
With everyone's nod (though Glynda's was clearly reluctant), Ruby hit Play Now.
[Gnarled and mangled
Warped deformed]"Hey, c'mon doc, don't be so hard on yourself." Yang was clearly getting into the mood of things.
"It certainly describes his Grimm..." Weiss muttered.
[They see nightmares
A mutant swarm]"Well yes, you did kinda make a mess." Blake "agreed."
"Hehehehe" Ruby started chucking. This was going to be fun. Hopefully.
[I see beauty
Underneath]"Well, you have to have looked REALLY far then, doc, cause I can't see it." Nora declared.
"Didn't you want a pet Ursa when we were younger?" Ren rhetorically asked.
[I see promise
In nature's freak]"I mean...all they do is kill people." Jaune pointed out. "I don't really see it."
"It's worth studying them." Pyrrha gave the song. "But not...that."
[*Epic Buildup*]
"Oh, this is already sounding great!" Nora elated.
"Kinda catchy, yeah." Yang agreed.
"Why are you taking this so lightly?" Glynda asked.
"I mean it's...not like he was really that much of a problem." Ruby pointed out. "Any first year team could have probably stopped him."
