"'Neon...is absolutely meaningless in the grand scheme of things.'" The note declared. "'It's from the perspective of Neon Katt, who's not really an important "character" outside of one match with her partner Flynt Coal against Weiss & Yang. I mean, she shows up on occasion, but still. And yet she gets her own song. That kinda fits when you get to know her, actually. Anyways, have some fun.'"

[Song Starts]

[*Upbeat Intro*]

"Okay so...who is this person?" Ruby asked. "I mean, the note said she wasn't important, but she gets her own song, so..."

"Neon Katt from Atlas Academy." Glynda recited, having already pulled up the student records. "The most "energetic" member of...Team FNKI? Did...did James name a Team FNKI?" she seemed at a loss for words at that. Utterly.

"Are you certain?" Ozpin asked in disbelief. Glynda sent over the records in his Scroll. Indeed, that was their name: Flynt Coal, Neon Katt, & the adopted siblings Kobalt & Ivory Culaidah. Team FNKI. They had a decent record...but they weren't at all what he was expecting.

"...I'm as surprised as you are." Ozpin replied after he'd read their files. Nora just started laughing at that. Weiss looked in disbelief at just how...flummoxed her Professors were. And Yang had an idea...

"So, what's her weapon, Semblance, that sort of thing?" She asked.

"You are going to be fighting this person in the Festival according to the note." Glynda reminded her.

"No cheating!" Ruby ordered. Before anything else could be said, the lyrics began.

[We're all born
With a dream
We wanna make come true]

"I guess that's technically true." Blake granted.

"Okay but what does that have to do with anything?" Nora asked.

[The best will climb
To the top like me
The rest will end up like you!]

"That would be "pre-battle boasting" I believe." Weiss answered after that.

"That is the technical term for it as I understand, yes." Ren somehow said with a straight face.

[I bet it's hard to live with
Knowing that you'll
Never be this fine]

"Quite an ego on this one, even factoring that in." Pyrrha noted.

"I mean, I wanna say that's just part of the banter, but..." Ruby trailed off, uncertain.

[Don't be distraught
Don't be sad
You gave it your best try]

"Wow, yeah, haven't heard stuff like THAT before..." Jaune grumbled.

"Oh, she's going DOWN." Yang promised, her eyes turning crimson.

[Listen, girlfriend
Can't you see?]

"Well, no, outside of the lyrics." Ozpin added. This was likely to be their only bit of levity for a while, he had a foreboding suspicion, so....

"Excuse you?" Weiss demanded at the same time. The note DID say it was addressed to her & Yang, after all...

[I'm all of the things
That you'll never be]

"She's certainly...unique, but I wouldn't go that far." Glynda admitted, looking over her student record.

"Is she TRYING to piss me off? Cause it's working." Yang growled. Oh, her revenge once it actually came would be GLORIOUS.

[I'm cool like the rain
And I'm hot like the sun]

"So does she have, like, ice or fire powers, or..." Nora asked.

"I've never heard of a Semblance that versatile." Ren added. Well, not a SEMBLANCE, no...

[I'm a Neon Rainbow
And you're no fun]

"I was...not expecting this out of Atlas students." Weiss admitted.

"Yeah me neither but whatever." Yang muttered. "Just gives us a heads up."

[*Short Interlude*]

"Do you think maybe that's the point?" Blake asked. "Being aggravating on purpose?"

"That's would be an...unorthodox strategy." Pyrrha offered.

"Well, it's working, I mean just look at Weiss & Yang." Nora pointed out.

"Yes, well..." But before Weiss could continue, the lyrics started up again.

[Maybe time
To retreat
You need a diva review]

"A what now?" Ruby asked.

"Some fashion thing." Nora answered. "I think Ren knows more about it."

"That was a rather odd Tuesday, yes." Ren agreed.

[You can see I
Never Miss A Beat
Your makeover's long overdue]

"You know, it didn't even say if she's only talking to just one of you or both of you." Blake pointed out.

"Yeah I kinda figure one of you would be busy with her partner, uh...Flynt, right?" Jaune agreed.

"It does seem something of an oversight." Pyrrha overanalyzed. "...Unless it was on purpose." she granted.

[Just try to understand this
It's not that I am
Trying to outshine]

"Ah, and now we're back to the flowery condescension." Weiss grumbled.

"Isn't that what you did for like, the first month?" Yang cheekily asked.

"...Haven't we had this conversation before?" Weiss pointed out.

"Yeah, but I'm NEVER letting it go." Yang confirmed.

[You've got your
Inner beauty
We can't all be divine!]

"What is James teaching his students...?" Glynda muttered.

"Well, Team...FNKI appears to be rather unorthodox by all accounts." Ozpin pointed out. And besides, he thought, Ms. Katt had no idea how right she was. Or perhaps instead of "can't" it should be "shouldn't".

"It feels like she's just more honest about it." Blake offered. How many goddamn military posters promoting their exceptionalism WERE there in Atlas, anyways?

[Listen, girlfriend
Can't you see?]

"What, are you asking me out on a date?" Yang sarcastically asked.

"You can do better, probably!" Ruby shouted in support.

Nora immediately took a moment to look at Blake after that comment. Was it just her, or was there the slightest of flinches? Hehehehe.

[I'm all of the things
That you'll never be]

"As...irritating as Yang can be, I think I'd consider that a compliment." Weiss shot back.

"Love you too, Weiss-y!" Yang cheered.

Now THAT, Nora thought, was more...never married but still INCREDIBLY divorced.

[I'm cool like the rain
And I'm hot like the sun]

They had nothing new to say to this one. It was a boast, & not a BAD one, but...

[I'm a Neon Rainbow
And you're no fun]

Perhaps there WAS something to be said for being deliberately aggravating. But eh.

[No one likes a girl
Who wears a silly frown]

"Okay, don't...like that." Yang admitted.

"Sounds...familiar." Weiss agreed.

"She probably couldn't have known, right?" Ruby offered.

"No, I see their point, it's more a...general thing." Pyrrha added. Though not exactly the general thing the people of Earth would think of.

[Just wear a smile and
You'll turn it all around]

"I suppose it works for Nora..." Blake muttered.

"I mean, kinda." Jaune granted. Sometimes when he stayed up later "playing catch-up", he could hear Nora mumbling in her sleep.

"Annoyingly so..." Glynda muttered, not having that internal context.

[Just think of happy things
You'll see in no time]

"Well, we can't be happy at all times." Ren countered.

"It is okay to...not be okay." Ozpin agreed. "So long as you don't let it consume you."

"Yeah. Yeah." Nora finished. Today was proof enough of THAT, wasn't it?

[Fun every day
The clouds roll away]

"I feel like we're...missing some important information here." Blake offered. "As to why exactly she's like this."

"...She's a Cat Faunus." Glynda spoke up. Perhaps not the most tactful, but...

"Oh, yeah, that would do it." Blake agreed. "Why she's so...it's a defense mechanism. And in Atlas..."

[Try it you'll see
Just be more like me]

"Pass." Yang immediately replied.

"Regardless of your...reasons, it's still obnoxious." Weiss agreed, looking down at herself a bit.

"I'm really proud of you, Weiss-y." Yang responded.

"Yeah yeah..." Weiss muttered.

[*Chill Beats*]

"So, uh..." Ruby began. They'd gotten good at spotting the intermissions.

"It's...fun." Weiss granted. "In terms of the music, anyways."

"It's...something of an insight, I guess." Blake added.

"But really, REALLY annoying." Yang continued.

"Also, if she only shows up, like, a couple times, it's kinda pointless, right?" Jaune asked.

"Well, the note DID say that it would fit her "character" to have a sing even without that, and...I can believe it." Pyrrha offered.

"But enough about that. Weiss, Yang," Nora began. "Take. Her . Down."

"The honor of Beacon Academy demands it." Ren also said with a straight face.

"Just remember that this is SUPPOSED to be friendly competition." Glynda added.

"Hopefully that's all it will be in this world." Ozpin finished. The lyrics started up again before anything else could he said.

[Listen, girlfriend
Can't you see?]

And okay, Glynda was right. At the end of the day it WAS supposed to be fun, criminal conspiracies aside, so...Nora started humming along.

[I'm all of the things
That you'll never be]

No singing though. It was lighthearted enough that they were willing to hum along...but in the spirit of the Festival, they weren't going to sing the praises of the people they were trying to beat (heh).

[I'm cool like the rain
And I'm hot like the sun]

And hey, maybe that fit Weiss & Yang better than it did her. Or they were overthinking something the note had called utterly meaningless. Or both.

[I'm a Neon Rainbow
And you're no fun]

Well, that was...something. Most certainly A Thing. But the song wasn't quite over yet.

[*Conclusion Beats*]

"Full circle, then." Weiss noted. Outside of From Shadows, the songs tended to end with the lyrics, or at least close enough, she noticed.

"Eh, it's fun." Nora defended. Still, nothing much to say there, so...they just let it play.

Once it was done, Ruby spoke up. "So...that was a nice, uh..."

"Diversion?" Blake offered.

"Yeah, that." Ruby agreed. "...I think Weiss & Yang made an enemy, though."

"Rivals for life..." Yang muttered, though with a bit of a grin.

"Or until after the fight, if the note's right about her...prominence." Weiss pointed out.

"Still, given the relative unimportance, I feel as though that's the most we will get out of that." Ozpin offered. "Ms. Rose, if you would?"

"Right!" Ruby looked to her Scroll. "So, up next we haaaaavveee...Mirror Mirror Part II. ...Oh, um, sorry, Weiss." Weiss herself just looked...resigned.
