"Hey, babe. Two more weeks and I'll be home. You still want to go to South Africa with me, right?" Liam asked Eva.
"Of course I do! I want to see an elephant. And a lion. And a cheetah. And a meerkat. And Pumba." Eva gushed.
"Pumba is a cartoon. You can't see Pumba." Liam laughed.
"Way to burst my bubble. You can't see, but I'm pouting right now!"
Liam was once again on the other side of the world, this time places like Thailand and Hong Kong. Eva had classes and had to be left behind. Luckily, her Spring break was the same time One Direction was supposed to be in Africa. That would make the fourth continent she had been to. They'd really only been a "couple" for a year and a half, but it seemed like a lifetime. Liam was her best friend, her lover, her everything.
"Anyhow, pouty, how are you classes?" Liam asked.
"They are fine. Look, I think I made a decision!"
"About what? Are you repainting the bedroom or something while I am gone?" Liam sounded worried.
"The wedding. I'm thinking
October.""Okay, that's like six months. Plenty of time to plan." Liam was glad she finally made a decision. His mother was on his back about it every day.
"Uh, no. A year and six months." Eva corrected.
"What? Why? This October is perfect. You know we are taking a break after the next album. We can honeymoon in Fiji for the entire winter. It will be amazing. We can live in a little hut on the beach. I'll fish for our dinner..."
"We will die of starvation..." Eva laughed.
"Well, thanks for the vote of confidence." Liam pretended to be insulted. Eva knew that he liked it when she was mean to him. Just another good thing that had come out of therapy. She really should send Melanie some flowers and invite her to the wedding. She wondered if that was strange but, it was because of her that they had survived a devastating loss around Christmas. She was going to invite her anyway. Who cares if it's weird to invite your therapist? It was her wedding. She could do what she wanted. "Anyhow," Liam continued, "I vote for this October. I'll call my mum. She will reserve the church and rent the tent. You get a white dress and show up. It will be grand."
"Six months? That's...." Eva said.
"That's what?" he asked.
"Soon. And Lex wanted to come for part of the summer, before the North American tour." Eva explained.
"So?"
"SO!"
Liam sighed. "Look, if you want to wait a whole other year before you become Mrs. Liam Payne, I guess we could wait. But I vote now."
"Uh, One, Who said I was changing my name? And two, why can't I ever just say no to you and not feel bad?"
She could hear Liam laughing. "One, you are changing your name. And two, I'm calling my mum. I'll see you, at the altar, the first Saturday in Oct. You wear a white dress. I'll get a black suit. We throw cake at each other. Plan?"
Eva thought. Did it really make a difference? It wasn't like she wanted a huge wedding anyhow. Maybe it would be small because it was fast. "Okay. One, I'll change my name if I feel like it. And two, call your mother."
Liam grinned. He had gotten her to change her mind about something. This was a huge deal. He needed to get the plan in motion, before she changed her mind back. "Yes! Okay, One, I'll call her right now. And two, I love you."
"I love you to, you big bully. I'll talk to you later."
Later, as she was just crawling into bed, she got a facetime call from Liam. She laid down and answered the call. "Hey, baby. What's up?"
"I just needed to see your face and tell you something before it gets out on twitter." Liam said. "Are you in bed?"
"Yes. It's night here, remember?" Eva was worried, now. He was normally pretty good with the 'when to call' thing. Something must be really wrong.
"That's right, I forgot. It's just been a long day and it's only noon. What are you wearing?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.
Eva moved the phone out so that he could see the ratty old t-shirt that had belonged to him. "Not sexy, sorry."
Liam's eyes were now wide and he looked excited. "That is incredibly sexy. You have no idea. I miss you so much." He sighed and then went on "Anyhow, Lou and El broke up. I didn't want you to see it on twitter and think Lou was cheating or anything. We've had enough of that right now. I just don't want you to freak out."
Eva was stunned and not stunned at the same time. The last time she had seen them together in Australia, they looked miserable. "Wow. Well, we can't say we didn't see that coming. I'm okay. I swear. No freaking out that we are next or anything."
"Thank god for that. With Zayn taking a break and now this? The paps are going crazy and I just can't take one more thing to worry about. Thank you for not freaking out."
Eva could see how much more relaxed he looked than when he first called. His shoulders had gone down and he was smiling. "Hey, get in bed with me!" Eva said. Liam walked over to his hotel bed and laid down. "Now, tell me a boring story so I can fall asleep."
Liam laughed. "God, I miss you. Two weeks is going to seem like forever."
