The next day was more of the same, trying not to hug people, fake smiling and hiding for as long as possible. Altogether they ended up with 7 cards from people, all with money or gift cards in them. She wondered if you could donate gift cards to the Goodwill.

At the end of that day, her Uncle Jonathan and his family arrived. He was her dad's brother. That was her entire family, except for distant Aunts and Uncles she didn't know well. All her grandparents were gone and her mother was an only child. Her uncle had two children, Samantha and Maxwell, who were around the same age as her and Lex. She wished Liam was meeting them at a better time, because if he thought she was competitive on a waverunner,  her cousin, Max, would terrify him. Sam pulled her aside right away. They were leaving for the airport when Andrew had called. She was really sad to have missed the wedding. "And look," she said, "You've known me forever and you know I'm not a asshole, Right?" Eva nodded. "Can I please get a picture with Liam?"

This made Eva laugh right out loud. She would never have guessed that her cousin would be a 1D fan. Her biggest dream when they were kids was to be a forest ranger. "Sure. Hang on." Eva went over to grab Liam. Sam took a few pictures and then Liam went back over to her brother and his friends. They were discussing soccer. When he was out of earshot, she held up his phone. "Want him to follow you on twitter?" Again, Sam surprised her by screeching and doing a funny little dance.

Having people she knew made this day much more bearable. Liam was thrilled, too, because she was acting more like herself.

That night, after everyone had finally settled where her uncle, aunt and cousins would sleep, Liam laid in bed, waiting for Eva. She walked in the door wearing her long flannel, camping nightgown. "What in the hell?" Liam asked.

"What, I thought you liked it?" she replied.

"For camping. Come here." he patted the bed. "Are you okay? You haven't wanted me for days. This is a clear 'don't touch me signal.' What is wrong?"

"I don't know. I guess I feel like if I have fun or enjoy myself too much it's disrespectful to my dad. Does that make sense?"

"No. Your dad would want you to be happy. You heard that Barbra woman. He wanted you to get married and be happy. I don't think he'd want you to be unhappy. He'd want you to keep living." Liam pleaded.

"I just don't want to forget why I'm here." she said.

"It's okay to forget for a few minutes. I swear." Liam pulled herdown.

"Just, not right now, okay? Please? I'm so tired."

Liam let go of her hand. "That fine. It's fine." But Eva could tell by his voice that it wasn't fine. She laid on her side of the bed and closed her eyes. "I said it's fine Evie. Don't go all fish eggs on me." He grabbed her around her middle and pulled her into his arms. Smiling, she wiggled down so she could sleep with her head on his arm, in the spot where she fit.

Finally, it was time for the funeral. Eva and her family got to say one last goodbye to her dad just before everything started. She kissed him one final time and walked into Liam's waiting arms. He walked her into the church and they sat in the front pews, waiting for everything to start. Lex and Niall were next to them.

Out of nowhere, they was a commotion in the back of the church and a gasp. Eva turned to see what was happening. Harry, Louis, Marian, Emma, Dylan and Liam's parents had just walked it. Eva looked at Liam. He shrugged. He didn't know they were coming either. They all sat in the pew behind Liam. Eva whispered to him, "Who would have thought that the quietest girl in the world would be friends with the world's biggest boy band." She looked up at him and he was glad to see the light in her eyes was coming back. She turned around and greeted everyone and thanked them for flying all this way. "Anything for you, pain in the butto." Louis laughed.
