The only thing left to do, that Eva cared about, was the cake. She wanted everything done before June. Lex was coming and then the American tour. She wouldn't have the time soon. Britney had given her three places. They made appointments at each place to taste and talk about designs.

The first place was too posh for Eva.They had weird favors like passion fruit and pomegranate. The second place wasn't quite right either. The cake just tasted like cake and she wanted to make a small cake for 100 people and then the rest would be cupcakes. That just wasn't was Eva envisioned.

The third place was owned a jolly looking older man who laughed all the time. Eva liked him straightaway. His plan was for a 5 layer cake that could feed 350 people. It was smooth, white fondant with buttercream underneath. He wanted to have a trail of flowers down one side, in various shades of purple, almost like her dress. It was exactly what she wanted. Then he bought out the flavor choices. Pink cherry chip, purple boysenberry, bright red raspberry, and then all the normal chocolates and white cake.

"I love cherry chip!" Eva exclaimed. "Will it be this pink? When you cut into the cake?"

"Yes, ma'am" he told her. "or purple or red. Whatever you like."

Eva nodded and picked up the cherry chip and took a bite. "Oh my god. Liam, eat this!" She held it out for him to bite. He took a small bite and smiled, nodding. Eva shoved the rest of the piece in her face.

"Hey! Share!" Liam said. Eva shook her head no, laughing,

"I can get more" The baker started toward the back.

"No, it's fine." Liam said. "I'm used to it. You should she her around carrot cake. I don't stand a chance."

"We have carrot! It's not something we normally do for weddings, but we could try. The cream cheese icing and the fondant don't go well together."

"Darn," Eva said. "That's my favorite." She picked up the boysenberry and took a bite. "Holy Crap. This is it." She turned to Liam and offered him a bite. He grabbed her hand and put the rest of the piece in his mouth. "Hey! Now you share!" she laughed.

He shook his head. "No way. That was delicious. You are right. That's the cake." He was licking all the frosting off his lips.

The baker was laughing. "Okay, boysenberry it is. Do you like the design? The 5 layers? The flowers?Anything else you want?"

Eva was picking at the other flavors."Nope. I love it! And I love that the inside will be purple! It will be so beautiful!"

"Well, okay!" The baker smiled. He filled out the order form with all the dates and left it with them to sign while he went in to the back of the shop. He returned with a small cake box and handed it to Eva. "For you, my dear! Thank you so much! We will see you in October."

Eva opened the box. Inside was a perfect, tiny carrot cake. Eva clapped with joy. "Carrot cake! Thank you!" she gushed.

"My pleasure. Really." he smiled and ushered them out of the shop.

They arrived home and Eva went straight to the kitchen and grabbed a fork. Before Liam could even ask what she was doing, she had cake in her mouth.

"Uh, I was going to ask what you wanted for lunch, but I guess I see what you are having." he laughed.

"I love carrot cake. If you were made of carrot cake, I'd eat you!" She shoveled more cake into her face. Liam looked at her, shoved his fingers into the frosting and smeared it on his lips. "Hey! That's mine!" She dove at Liam, kissing and licking off every single bit of frosting.

.....................

Eva felt like everything she cared about was done and it was only the middle of May. The invitations were done and had been given to a company to address, assemble and mail, guaranteed to be mailed Aug 1. She had a dress. Liam had a suit. When they got to New York, this summer, they'd buy the wedding bands. Britney had the rest.

On the morning of May 15th, she was awoken by Liam, with flowers and pancakes. "What's all this for?" she asked.

"It's May 15th. I just want you to know that I remembered and that I'm here, if you need me."

Eva was overwhelmed that he remembered the due date of the baby they lost. It made her feel validated, like she wasn't just a crazy lady, still hung up on the past.

Liam went on, "And I have another surprise for you. Get dressed."

"Can I eat my pancakes first?" Eva asked. Liam laughed and nodded.

An hour later, they were riding in Liam's car, near her old flat. "Where are you taking me?"she wondered, looking out the windows. "Hey! This is that park! Where we kissed for the first time!" Liam parked the car and Eva looked around for the pond.

"This way." Liam grabbed her hand and led her down a path to the small pond. There were children and families all around, feeding ducks and relaxing. He stopped in front of a familiar place. "Here. This is where I kissed you for the first time. This is where I decided to marry you, no matter what."

"Oh, Liam!" Eva exclaimed, throwing her arms around him.

"Wait! Look over there." He pointed to a bench on the path, right near where they were standing. He walked her over. "It's new. The park was looking for donations, so I donated. This is our bench. Look!"

He pointed to a plaque on the bench that said

"Harrison Edward Payne. Gone but not forgotten. November 2014"

"You do care!" Eva cried, throwing herself back into his arms, bawling.

"Of course I do, Evie."he said. "Of course I do."
