THE UNSEEN HOURS. Popularidad by the late Kobe Bryant. In basketball, unrivalled prowess of legends are often told. The lesser explored yet pivotal aspect of their success is their commitment to training and practice.
Bryant’s illustrious career was not just about his talent. It was the countless unseen hours he spent on court when the seats were empty and nobody was cheering.
The same is true for public speaking. More so if you’re an introvert like me who also needs to manage discomfort in front of a large crowd. It takes tons hours of preparation and practice for a talk that lasts for only 15 minutes.
I’ve read somewhere that the most spontaenous speakers are the most rehearsed speakers. It’s true. And if people tell you they just woke up that way, chances are they are not telling the truth.
Just because something looks basic doesn’t mean you just wing it. In business and in life — even in our relationships — success is not a gift. Successful people work hard and smart, then succeed on purpose.
