"You humans really do amuse me," Salazzle explains while leading you, arm in arm. "Among a species living off of countless imperfections, there are always those who stand out. There are always the humans that are flawless. People who can do anything, sway anyone, say everything without suffering consequences..."

Her eyes dim and she fixes a bothered gaze onto you. Although you don't see it — your eyes are focused on the wall she's walking you toward — you can feel an indescribable energy radiating from her.

"People like you," she continues in a low voice, devoid of her former enthusiasm and lust. "I've seen many humans come and go. I've seen them die and I've seen them scamper off into the darkest parts of the world where they either rot away or barely manage to live on. But it's people like you, people without issues, that really catch my eye."

You're barely able to form thoughts out of what has become of your hazy mind. Her poison hasn't overthrown all of your control, thankfully. "What is she talking about? I have problems of my own. I'm not... perfect."

"People like you will throw off the balance of this world," she whispers in your ear. "Factor that into having a flawless Pokémon partner as well, and you've got the formula for a life of fantasy."

"Life of fantasy? I don't understand..."

"That being said, I love you, human. I really do." You feel Salazzle's slick fingers slithering up and down your spine, skillfully tickling your skin until you feel an urge to laugh aloud. But there is no noise. You're unable to react — you're simply her robot, your only command driving you closer to the wall from which you'll jump and plummet to your death.

"I just don't believe the world deserves you," Salazzle adds. "And if the world doesn't deserve you, no one living in it does. Not your friends, your family, especially not that monster of a cat. Today is the day you die. Understand?"

"No..."

"Yes," is the response Salazzle receives, and it makes her giddy to hear. She's in control. She's pulling the strings. You're just her disposable puppet dangling too close to the edge. Salazzle has said her piece, you didn't quite understand what it meant exactly, but you are prepared to obey. Your last function in life is to obey. Nothing more, nothing less.

Salazzle steadily hoists you up onto the wall and you do the rest from there, pulling yourself up to the ledge where the building meets the sky and all of Mesagoza is sitting there below your eyes. You manage to get yourself all the way up with a strength you've never before mustered, positioning yourself safely at the edge of a very landing where you will jump from. You look back over your shoulder at Salazzle, still on the schoolyard's artificial grounds, and you see nothing but a big smile aimed at you. The last thing you'll see is someone smiling at you. That is such a bittersweet thought. You try to smile back but all you can manage under Salazzle's spell is a robotic stare.

"I'm going to die."

Salazzle points past the wall. You follow her finger, staring to the blue sky and then down to the streets of Mesagoza. The sights are beautiful. You've never been up high enough to see how far Mesagoza stretches, nor how many buildings are fit into one strip of oasis. Seeing this makes you wonder just how many other regions share the same luxurious sights. How many places in the world could be as stunning. To passersby, Mesagoza is just a city. But to you, it's home, and home is remarkably beautiful.

The wind creeps along the back of your neck, nudging you gently as if persuading you to take that first step forward. If you were to listen closer, you could hear a whisper in the breeze telling you not to be afraid, not to delay — just move forward and let yourself be free. Solemn memories wallow in your mindless headspace, giving way to regret and the desire to stop yourself. Looking down upon yourself, you see the golden ring wrapped around one of your fingers.
