49 | Behold... the Feline's Flower Trick!

You throw open the door. One peek around the corner and you find your two partners quietly whispering back and forth in Pokémon tongue. As soon as they take notice of you, they perk up.

"We've got visitors."

It doesn't take but a second for that to register in Meowscarada's head as... showtime! On point, like a soldier on the frontlines, the feline stands from the bed and directs all her attention at you by the doorway. Confused, but smart enough to play along, Cinderace does the same, standing and assuming a welcoming, polite stance — a stark contrast to Meowscarada's boldened demeanor.

"Come in," you say to the siblings behind you and step aside to make enough room. The entryway is tight for three people, but they squeeze through well enough, breaking into the claustrophobic dorm space and setting their sights on none other than...

The gal, the myth, the legend, the marvelous cat—!

Carmine is the first to speak, her eyes totally raging with awe at the sight of Meowscarada striking an elegantly smug bow, as though the room had become her stage and the spotlight was now shining beautifully upon her.

"It's really her!!"

Behind his sister, Kieran has a much easier time containing his excitement. It shows through his sharp yellow eyes and half of a smile, but that's the extent of it. It's clear to you this boy is cool and reserved, the polar opposite of his sister — at least in the presence of a celebrity such as Meowscarada.

"I can't believe this. I can't." Carmine sounds like she might faint. "This is the best day of my life."

"You're fangirling," Kieran says tiredly.

Carmine whirls around to shake a fist frantically in front of her brother's face. The boy flinches, squealing the closer Carmine comes. "Be quiet, Kiki! How many times do I gotta say it?!"

"Ahh, alright, alright! Calm down!"

"There's nothing wrong with being a fan, okay?!"

At that, Kieran cracks a nervous grin. "A fan... girl."

"Kiki!!"

You step in quickly, afraid she might actually slap her little brother across the face — although she hardly appears peeved enough to want to harm him anyway. "Cool it, cool it. I enjoy watching the sibling banter but you don't wanna tire the magician herself out, do you?"

You cast a glance at Meowscarada, who has been patiently watching the whole thing go down. Her eyes dart to yours and back to the sibling duo, but in that brief instance of eye contact, you swear you heard a voice in your head.

"Fine by me if they start going ballistic, Master. It's only natural to be awestruck over a great magician like myself."

Carmine and Kieran adjust themselves, turning to the magic prodigy herself. You lean over the small kitchen counter, if it can be called such a thing in the first place, and your eyes sweep over the four individuals in the room. The siblings, who try their best to contain themselves, and your two Pokémon, who are just waiting for the show to begin.

"Why don't you entertain our guests, Meowscarada?" you suggest. "Been a while since you put on one of your homemade magic shows."

The last real one she cooked up ended in shambles. Back when she was dead-set on proving Cinderace to be a worthless addition to the team and created a stony replica of the rabbit out of raw spite for you, who had nothing to do with her. And then proceeded to attempt assault with it. That's not a point in time you'd ever wanna jump back to.

Now, however, Meowscarada seems more than happy to oblige. Because this is one of the few times she has a bigger audience — someone else but you watching — she decides she can afford to crank up her performance. With a flicker of green magic and a wave of her paw, she summons clothes from the blue, a classy magician's fit snugly consuming her body in an instant.
