Jeremy had left early the next morning before Cassandra's parents woke up, leaving the same way he came- right through her window. I'm pretty sure I heard him fall out of the tree at some point.
Now, Cas and I are on our way back to her house from the mall, where we spent most of the day shopping and doing just about everything she wanted to do. She even talked me into getting manicures so now my nails are dark red- almost black, in a 'short almond' shape.
Whatever the hell that means, it's what the lady doing my nails called it.
I don't like being touched by people I don't know, so getting that manicure was probably quite the experience for that poor lady. I can't tell you how many times I had flinched making her mess up the acrylic. I would apologize every time and the lady would say it was fine, but I could see the irritation grow on her face everytime I twitched.
I made sure to leave her a generous tip afterwards.
"Do you think I should've gotten a different color?" Cassandra asked as she held out her freshly polished nails. She chose to go with a pale pink gradient that flows into a white on 'medium coffin shaped' acrylic.
The colors match her personality to a T.
With the pink symbolizing her nurturing and loving nature. And the white symbolizing how pure her heart is despite all of the darkness she's had to crawl through with what happened with Jack.
"No, those colors suit you."
"Are you sure? They aren't too much?" she asked as she pulled out her phone, taking pictures of her nails.
"Absolutely." I nodded, changing the song on the stereo to one of our favorite songs, called 'partners in crime' by Set it Off.
"Oh man, we haven't heard this song in forever! Do you remember when you played this song in the cafeteria without your headphones and the principle had to come tell you to turn it off because you were-"
"-disturbing the other kids while they tried to eat." I finished her sentence, smiling at the memory as I nodded. "I remember."
"What was it you said to him?..." she giggled, turning her body to face me while I continued driving, tapping my thumbs on the steering wheel to the beat of the music.
A small smile tugged at my lips as I cringed, remembering what I said.
"I'm pretty sure it was something along the lines of 'i'm sorry but your voice is disturbing me while I eat.' or something like that. Not the wittiest thing I've ever said but that's middle school for ya I guess."
Cas threw her head back and laughed. When I looked over at her I noticed that her smile had turned sad.
"I'm really gonna miss you bestie..." she croaked, wiping away a stray tear that had fallen from her baby blues. "Sorry... I told myself I wasn't gonna cry..."
